Yes, HL2 blends animation and from what ive seen in Cs:s it looks great and very natural. My question is, does it do it ingame or are the animations preset like "this is how it looks when you crouch and strafe left at the same time"?

HL1 had in game animation blending on the grunts and possibly on other models. So I wouldn't find it all that difficult to believe HL2 does it too.

Actually yes it did.

I mean other than letting your upper body look the other than your feet...

Aw for god´s sake, HL2s animations look great, how does it do it?

HL2 is using the same software to create ultra sexy animations, as POP sands of time. POP: SOT actually won many awards for it's animation excellence, even though the models were pretty plain. HL2 promises the most realistic human animations in a game, and from what we've seen - it's approaching it.

The software is softimage XSI.

I think the best thing ive seen so far, was dureing E3 2004, after gordon has a run in with the roller mines, he faces some combine outside a house, and one of them goes running across the road fireing his gun, and it just looks so smooth, then you have all the branching dialogue gesture stuff which looks sweet.

Also nice is the trainstation bink where Gordon follows the combine to the interogation room, his head bobs up and down as he walks, nice tough. Also in the trainstation vid you see two guys carrying suitcases, and they really walk like there's weight on their one arm.
The animations of HL2 are superb.

This blending tech is also really cool, Valve said you can blend different actions in Faceposer without having to animate yourself. You could for example combine a typing animation while the character follows you around and talks and occasuinally moves his hands in gestures. Yeah, we're gonna see great stuff!
