I believe Alyx did die. At first I was angry because I thought she was a pretty cool character. But after reading some of the theory I found out that her/Eli Vance/Dr. Briner might have been the ones that hired you from the G-man and they were keeping this secret from you. Dr. Breen does hint at this and they want to change the subject. So, after knowing this, her death wasn't that bad.

I didn't notice that the voices were by the same guy untill I heard it in the posts.

And I do agree that Half-Life 2 is the best single palyer FPS by far period
