Passenger jet in flames at Toronto airport

A passenger jet is in flames after apparently skidding off the runway at Toronto's Pearson airport.

Few details are known, but emergency vehicles are on the scene. There is no word on whether there are any casualties.

Unconfirmed reports say the jet belongs to Lufthansa airline. Live television pictures show flames and smoke billowing from the aircraft in a tree-filled area near the airport.

Severe thunderstorms and heavy winds in the Toronto area have been causing numerous flight delays and cancellations Tuesday.

Witness Mark Yppelar told CTV Newsnet that he saw heavy lightning strikes in the area before he saw the aircraft on fire.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority is expected to hold a press conference at 5 p.m. ET.

Um.. there is a fire on an airplane that has been burning for over 20 minutes... no one is outside. i think common sense would dictate that if you are inside you are ****ed royally.

According to msnbc the fire didn't start immediately
And the crew is trained to get everyone out of a plain in under 90 seconds :/
So maybe theres a chance?

well TECHNICALLY it depends upon the model but who cares. theres no way everybody survived.

my dad just missed seeing the plane crash on his way home from work. so far I've heard the plane missed the plane by 200 metres and they have been not casualities and 14 minor injuries.

the emergency vehicles took about a minute to get there.

I was lucky we didn't get stuck in traffic because of it since I was just comming back home today on the highway from my cottage when all of this was happening.
