Torrents disconnect me?

When downloading through torrents, it sometimes randomly shuts me off the interweb and it locks up anything using the interweb too, the only way to make it work again is to restart my PC.

Any ideas what it could be? It is fine downloading anything else or playing games etc etc - just torrents?

I use an external Modem and I've tried different ports.

Are you using azureus by any chance?
After I formatted my HDD one time, I had problems with it disconnecting me. Something goes wrong with Java, can't remember exactly what the error is.
If you are using it, try uTorrent, it's great.

I use uTorrent, and it is great. I've tried literally 5+ others and the problems are worse with disconnecting me.

Sometimes I can leave it for 2-3 hours fine then other times it cannot disconnect me after just a few minutes, seems random.
