Hey, not posted here in a while. Was just playing an awesome epic game of TA: Spring with an army of like 2000 killer robots all throwing themselves against an enemy defensive line, when I thought why not tell other people about this. It is possibly one of the most fun multiplayer strategy games, ever. Think the original TA but with better graphics, multiplayer, and a whole lot less engine limitations, plus countless other improvements. Best of all, it's absolutely free!

Unfortunately the main website is down for upgrades at the moment (http://taspring.clan-sy.com/), but the wikipedia article here should give you an idea of what it's like.

If you ever played, and enjoyed, the old Total Annihilation, you should really give this a try as soon as the websites back online. Even if you never played the old one, i'd reccommend trying Spring. I mean, it's no Supreme Commander but it should help pass the time until its release.

An oldie but a goodie.

There's even destructable terrain! :D

Well, I've only played the demo of TA, but I've read a lot of reviews and it seems an awesome game. I can't wait for Supreme Commander and if you say this TA Sprig has improved graphics and some other good additions I'll definitely have to give it a try.:D

Ill check it out soon as the site goes back up.

The fact that you have to have an original copy of Total Annihilation installed to play TA: Spings might be a contributive factor.

Offcourse, if you don't have Total Annihilkation installed, or you don't have a copy, you could always install spring, and play with the Star Wars model pack

It is a misconception that you need TA to play TA spring. All of the models and textures are included in the release.

However, you do need the original TA to play spring legally

But that infraction is so minor its more of a moral choice than a legal one. TA is so old and TA spring so drastically different and upgraded it barely makes a difference to have TA or not. its not like you're pirating the game.

However, if you absolutley must get TA to be morally correct, it only costs $5-9 at any used game store, and I would highly recommend it.

In my opinion, TA spring is the best free RTS available, if not the best online RTS currentley available now. Playing TA spring is a completley different experience from playing other RTS games like age of empires or starcraft or command and conquer, and with the updated spring engine allowing for absolutley beutiful water effects, realistic ballistics and physics and flight dynamics, TA has never looked and felt better.

The official TA spring video

If you don't have TA spring, give it a try! it is, after all free. And although I am not openly supporting getting it without paying for the original TA, I seriously doubt anyone will care whether you do or not.

Spring is the best free thing you will ever play.

ever.

There are at least 4 major mods of various themes (TA mostly) for the engine, and it will take you a long time to get bored of it.

I got bored of it quite fast, because the AI was not fully implemented, yet.

I'm hoping to get this bloody connection to my room, so as to play online with you guys

yeah, well that was your problem then. the game isn't meant to be played singleplayer. its really great fun multiplayer though.

Its been a long time since I've played TA...can't wait for SC though.
*goes off to install TA*

Morals schmorals, I want an RTS that doesn't suck. (IE: Warcraft series, new AOE, EE, and every other RTS I gave up on)

D/ling...

TA was the best strategy. I absolutely HATE starcraft!

Oh lets make two separate weapons for air defense and ground defense, but neither of the defensive weapons will have a longer range than the units that can attack them, thus making them utterly useless.

Or age of empires, i haven't played one in a while after i realized with the British long bow man i could utterly decimate anybody in my dorm with enough of them. The game quickly became a challenge to see how many bowman i could make.

With TA i could fly in 200 planes, and still not kill the other guy. I mean it's crazy what can happen when AA turrents actually...kill air units *gasp*.

Plus the music rocked, i actually still have the TA tracks on winamp, and i'll listen to them occasionally.

I have TA and the Core contigency(expansion), and it's AWESOME, especially over a lan with a few other people. the games ive played with other peoplelasted at LEAST 3 hours.

TA is easily one of the best strategy games ever. I think you can download it for free now, but i'm not sure...

I used to have TA+CC+BT, great game(s) but they did feel a bit too ol'..
Also no, they're not abandonware/freeware sadly, so it's still not legal to download it.
I'm going to get and try out this TASpring tho, moral or not, sometimes I have to bend my own morals.:D

I haven't got around to playing this yet, even though it looks really cool

I guess I haven't played many rts's lately just 'cause I see all the obvious features they're missing after I've read and watched about Supreme Commander

I took a screen of it. I almost like the original better, though
