Transfering save games between computers?

I have got Half Life2 installed on my Desktop PC and on my Laptop and I would really like to be able to continue where I left off regardless of which computer I played on last.

I have searched for a save game file that I could copy over but it is very well hidden.

Can anyone help? Surely it must be possible?

Steam\SteamApps\your_username\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE

Copy the files in that folder.
