1) The flashlight effect will be really sweet.

Source may not have an entirely unified lighting model like Doom3, but shader effects (HDR?) will give it startlingly realistic behavior. That's why we haven't seen any pics or vids with it; it's one of the surprises.

2) Running speed will be much slower.

This one's pretty obvious (just look at the vids). I mention it because I loaded up regular HL for the first time in a few years this week and was startled by how fast Gordon moves. It's like he has a skateboard. Maybe we don't see his feet because they're moving so fast.

1) there is a movie on the HDR effect, and one with the flash light in it,
and there is also a sprint button its all sweet aint it! :D

Flashlight vid? Which one?

There's a DOD style sprint button? Haven't heard that one.

i dont like the sprint idea, but i guess its halflife, where would we be without it, prolly still playing half life 1 trying to jump some of those gaps. lol

The flashlight was in the "wall" tech demo vid. The sprinting can be seen in bugbait in the turret part when he runs past them using the antlions as a bugshield.

Yay I beat him to it

the flash light is in the "wall" vidio on hl2 with the bumpmapping and the sprint key was used in bugbait vidio and it was confirmed by Gabe... im pretty sure.

BlazeKun bet me to it :P

yeah, i was struck by how fast you move in HL1 too, when I played it the other day. It's also weird how you slide a little when you stop. I found it kinda counter-intuitive and hard to control.

Ah well, I'll get used to however they do it.

THe best effect is in Blue-Shift where he slanted to which ever way he strafed its mad :D

*MUST PLAY :D*

Yeah, i only got it like 2 days ago, its a great change from playing HL over and over, i love barney :)
and the High Def pack is mad :D

Valve have already confirmed that movement speeds will be exactly the same, or as close as possible to the original Half-Life, this was noted in PC Gamer's preview months ago.

I haven't studied the movement speeds in recent HL2 footage and compared it to the original HL's movement speed to see if this holds true, however.

Looking at the vids, it can't be true, or else they meant Gordon moves the same units per second while the world is scaled up. And the inertia thing doesn't look like its there. I'd think you would slow down the running speed when the world gets more detailed (HL1 had lots of large bare rooms with no props to throw around).

As long as they don't do the Unreal 2 bit:

'Our AI and levels are boring. What do we do?'
'Let's give the player lead boots.'

I don't like Gordon moving too fast, and i hate that when Gordon slide a little when I stop, i like the idea of sprint, cuz i do that all the time in dod. And yeah, Gordon is moving slower in hl2 than hl1, i saw it in the E3 videos.

Ok just watched the 'wall' vid again. Flashlight not as cool as I would hope: notice that it does per poly, not pixel, lighting so when it shines on the pipes, the upper pipe gets incorrectly lit up its whole length while the bottom one correctly only the portion in the beam. Maybe they've improved this since that build. What I'm really looking for is a flashlight that casts a beam visible to other players :dork:.

and hopefully the ability to put the flashlight in my pants and light up my pants

sprint key would make the player work harder (in a good way) to think things through a little. Cant run in, out, lead zombies to doorway one by one for easy killin.

I estimate. . .I won't post here much once itsout :(
the whole "wait" thing willb e done.

i think sprint key is good feature, Fighters don't run at full speed all the time, soldiers run at slow pace on the battlefield. But sometime u need to rush, and it's time to use sprint.

Yes, you can surely scare a few zombies by waving a flashlight on them.

Concerning movement speed, this might actually be an effect of the fps. Though it would seem logical to slow it down a bit, since you have so much more to see. But the main thing is that all the movies we have seen moves slow and calculated, players dont move like this. So WE need to play it to determine speed :)
