Update HL demo crashes steam

Hi, I have CounterStrike Source (legal!) and I decided to intall the Half Life 2 Demo. Whenever I try to launch it however, it opens up the update box, which crashes after the first 5-10 seconds. After that I have to shut Steam down.

My specs are as follows:
WinXP Pro Service Pack 2 with 2.5ghz and 512mb ram. Pretty darn sure it's not to do with my system specs though, considering that it won't even let me play it =/

But anyway, it's not the end of the world if I can't have the demo, it was free after all.

If your computer is good enough to play CS:Source, then it should be enough to play the HL2 demo. I mean, I can play the HL2 demo without a graphics card. :|

Try deleting the HL2Demo file under SteamApps/yourusername.

You mean with an onboard graphics card, without a graphics card you'd have no place to plug the monitor into!
