My friend recently tried to flash his BIOS using WinPhlash, but he didn't bother plugging in. Midway through the process, his laptop ran out of juice. Needless to say, the BIOS got raped, and now he can't boot up. It is a Thinkpad R60, and when he took it to the local Lenovo guy he said that a new motherboard would have to be bought.

Is this true? Isn't there any cheaper way to fix this??

The simple answer to this is: lol, your're screwed! Maybe you could flash it to the original version?! I doubt it though.

You need "jumpers" to flash the bios now. I'm not sure how to do this because I have never done it before. Plus it's on a laptop so I have no idea. All I know is that you need the jumper leads to re-flash the bios because that CPU is screwed now.

Could try this if it has a floppy drive. But it probably doesn't. Otherwise the bios chip or whole board needs to be replaced.

I feel a little guilty, because I was the one who told him he could change the bitmap that shows up at boot-time. :(

I didn't realise he would ignore something WinPhlash warned him about explicitly!
