I have recently installed a new 512mb nvidia geforce GT on my computer, and i have installed half life 2. Everytime i play it there is distorted and missing textures and such on character models and walls etc. Sometimes there is no distortion though most of the time there is, ive tried rolling back the drivers, dx diagnostic. i dont know if its a heating problem because my temperature has never gone over 51 degrees. I really need help!

Q0. You have obviously tried reinstalling, defrag, everything that can help u solve hl2 problems in steam..?

Q1. Are you using original hl2? steam ect.

Q2. Are you using Vista?

ok im not a techie god, but im quite sure ppl will ask these questions..

Have you tried verifying your game cache using Steam? Right click on your game in the Steam menu, the option should be present.

Also, do these problems occur on any other games?

yes

yes it happens with other games it has happened with star wars battlefront.

If the video and graphics card can take the requirements of Half Life 2 and are functioning properly, I see no reason why the game should not be working. Although I have to say, I am not a PC gamer, suffice to say that I would not fully know the problems of a PC game. I only have the know-how for non-gaming related PC things.

Do a DX Diagnostic before and after you get the problem and see if there's any changes.

V-Man's words on the problem

Everytime I get a new Pc I fear that none of my games will function properly, and thankfully it's only happened once (that was when I upgraded to windows 2000 [all my old dos adventure games stopped working]).
Back on the topic though, I'm not fully sure what exactly is all happening when you play the game, what do the textures look like when their missing and such things.
My advice is to get a screenshot to show to everyone. That might help us recognize the problem better.
Good luck.

If other games don't work it looks like a hardware problem.

I'm beginning to think so too. My video card might be defective or not working properly. I've done literally everything I can think of to fix this problem, but to no avail.
