When a mod uses CSS models textures and sounds, would a half-life 2 (eg. orange box) account allow the mod to use CSS files, even if the game isn't purchased on that account (on other's or preloaded)?

Most mods use the Source SDK base, but the base won't have other models. Unless the models come with the mod, you'll need the game to play it.

Narvi speaks the truth. The only mod that doesn't require the game to use the models is Garry's Mod 10. I think. But that's only on the condition that you are paying for it.

If the mod takes the models from the counter-strike source GCFs, and I have the GCFs (cs source on a different account), then can it use those? Even though the actual steam account doesn't have CSS with it

Your Steam account won't recognize those GCFs, IIRC, since they're keyed to a specific account.

if you have more than one account with the same game they all use the same gcf

and purchasing a game doesn't change the gcf at all

Backups are keyed so that only accounts with the games will recognize them.

I never knew gcf's are keyed to certain accounts. I thought that they are simply unlocked when I buy the game after it has preloaded. very interesting facts indeed.

Yeah I didn't know that either, can anyone confirm
