I'm selling my friend my old computer and the hardrive that is coming with it is completely blank, so i figured that i could just use my copy of xp and the key on that computer too, since it was originally installed on that computer alone. the only thing i'm really unsure of is if anyone has done it successfully and knows that it works becuase it would be a real shame to have to get another one or get in big trouble with microsoft if it's illegal, which i'm not sure if it is...

Anything comments or anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can get another key for windows, using the same CD- but at least where i live you have to buy them in like 'packs' of 5- which costs heaps. Other than that, i dont think you can- unless you want to reinstall it every 30 days (when the activation runs out!), which as you can imagine, is a huge pain in the ass.

so to your knowlege it will notice that two computers are noticing it?

you can use it as many times as you like as long as you dont do that authentication thing on microsofts site.

Windows XP (Pro or Home) can be installed on 1 machine per license.
