From Toms Hardware:
"Bellevue (WA) - We've heard the story over and over again: Dual-cores are the fastest chips you can buy, period. While that claim may be true in many cases, it is especially not true for gaming: Games have not yet embraced multithreading and are lagging behind. Half-Life 2 developer Valve, however, believes that this scenario will change quickly and promises a 3.4x performance gain with four cores."

And from PCMagazine:
"Upcoming game titles that will support quad-core (or better) support will be... Valve's Half-Life 2: Episode 2..."

Wait, I'm confused, does this mean there will be no performance gain for those with only DUAL core CPUs compared to a 'standard' CPU, but you will only see a performance gain if you have a Quad-core CPU or better?
Someone please tell me, because I just got a new comp with a Core 2 Duo innit.

I'm quite happy with my single core thankyou. But good on VALVe, looking for the far distant future. ...course, they could settle for the forseeable future first....

I knew it! Dual Core processors were not used by games, but now... they will use mltithreading, but with Quad Core or better :P

Don't worry, though - Quad Core gives you up to 3.4x performance gain (what about graphic card bottleneck?), dual core will gain up to 1.8x, I'd guess ;)

It just means that the game will be multi-threaded. Dual cores will still bump up preformance but because a quad core can address more threads, it will preform better.

" So, expect a stand-alone piece of content first, coming in before Episode Two launches next year. Then, expect to see the support roll in through future Valve releases, including Episode Two itself. Valve engineers also told us to expect performance improvements in Episode One and other Valve games, although third party mods may not have any performance benefit. "

new tech demo ?

Yep, can't wait =D Just have to save some money for a multi-core processor now, though o.O
