I dont know if anyones made a thread about this b4, but it seems to me like Valve is preloading more and more files on Steam to put a lot of pressure on VUG

if everyone on these forums wasnt on the brink of insanity because of 3/4 of the HL2 files already on their computer VUG wouldnt think twice about delaying it, but since Valve is piling on the pressure and the expectations of the gamers (and letting 2 magazines reveiw it [PC Gamer Oct 5, PCPP Oct22]) VUG might just have to crack and release the damn thing to avoid being crucified

Did someone say my name?

It does seem like Valve is trying to pressure VUG into releasing the game but wether or not it'll work remains to be unseen.

Haha, I get it! Valve... pressure... Valve controlling the pressure... yeah? Yeah? ARRRR!

Ed. And Steam is involved! Holy ess!

It's actually said by that crazy guy Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean. :P

Maybe they ripped off that book! :O

oh yeh, thats probably where i remembered it from

i just read a lot of pratchett and others who read him will probably agree that its a very pratchett-sounding line

More power to Valve. This may very well be what it takes to get a 2004 release.

I went to Gamestop today and preorderd HL2 CE. The clerk warned me that a 'sales rep' had come through and advised him of a Febuary release. I dismissed this as BS,. why Feb? And what kind of sales rep was he talking to? Thinking about it, probably someone from VUG, so there might be some validity. I think I'll go back and ask. If so, VUG might be seriously considering waiting until Feb, to make room this xmas season for other games (As HL2 will sell whenever). This is of course complete speculation, but it is how I heard it from the Gamestop guy.

I fully agree!!

Valve are mounting a massive amount of pressure on Vivendi to release. Vivendi would look like complete fools if there's a tonne of magazine reviews, gigs of preloads, an announcement that Vivendi received the first RC on the 15th and they deliberately don't go gold.

I really hope this all works and Vivendi gives in.

Hey, now it all makes sense! ;)

this is... off-topic. is it

valve is, or
valve are?

i have always wondered

Im seriously gonna laugh my ass off if PC Gamer reviews HL2 in their October 5th issue, then the game doesnt come out for 6 months. This will be the worst video game launch in history my friends.

It's "is", but I'd bet money someone is going to disagree with me. They'd be wrong. :P

Ed. Ahhh... the fluke beat me to it... :o Touche!

Hardcore gamers (like people who visit this forum) only make up a small part of the PC gaming population. You are under estimating the uproar that this would cause.

As for magazines causes the more casual gamer to get excited, remember this, most gaming magazined briefly mentioned the September 30 fiasco of last year. Print times are so lagged that they can't be bothered with causing an uproar about a game that is reviewed right now then released several months later.

do you mean im overestimating the uproar it would case :S
im confused
but as razor blade kiss said, it would be pretty damn funny if the reveiw came out 6 months b4 the game, bordering on hilarity, even

Valve is, for it is a collective :borg:

It depends whether you are from the UK or the US. The US use "is" but the UK use "Are". But sometimes people from the UK use "is" instead of "are". Example, if I'm referring to the webpage or site staff I would say:

"Halflife2.net is down" (referring to the actual webpage)
or
"Halflife2.net are hoping to get a free copy of HL2" (referring to the staff of Halflife2.net).

Here's a quote from a webpage I found (until I found this page I didn't know that there was a difference):

Some of our words have different meanings, some are spelled differently, but grammar is the "glue" that holds a language together. Grammar, therefore, is virtually the same wherever English is spoken.

The only significant difference I can think of is that the British sometimes treat collective nouns as plural where the Americans treat them as singular.

UK: "The government are announcing an important decision." (Speaking of specific people in the government).
"The government is a constitutional monarchy." (Speaking of the government as an institution)

US: "The government is announcing an important decision."
"The government is a republic."
