vampires bloodlines: the masquerade

so i got this game called vampires the masquerade that is based off of the source engine... i have a fairly decent computer 1.5 gig of ram, 3200+ 64-bit 939 amd athlon process, abit mobo, x800GTO graphics card... but the thing is screwed to hell. Whenever i try and play it, everything will be going fine and then all of a sudden out of no where the mouse will freeze up, like i will still be able ot move and everything, but i wont be able to turn the view, and some tiems i will seem to freeze all together... so i tried pressing jump duck and wiggled the mouse, then like 5 seconds later, it jumped ducked and wiggled the mouse. Its ridiculous its like its trying ot avoid having low frames by delaying everything. Does anyone else have this game nad if you dod have you had this problem and know of a way to fix it?

I used to have this input lag with games before i formated my hard drive. It could have been my slow hard drive, messed up drivers, or viruses/spyware.

Welcome to Vampire the Maquerade: Bloodlines. The buggiest game that ever lived. Im sorry my friend, but that game is all sorts of messed up when it comes to bugs. Best I can say is to try and find some fan forums and ask there. The developer Troika went bottom up right after the release, so there havent been any patches to fix the major issues it has.

Its a damn shame too, because the game is really damn good if you can get past the glitches.

There have actually been quite a number of fan patches that increase the load and FPS time of the game, as well as correcting tons of bugs in the process.

Its a good thing VTM:B is a cult hit now, otherwise it'd just be another buggy mess.

jk, i know what you meant. I beat the game within the first week of release, with all the bugs and no patches, and I still enjoyed it. A testament to the game.

i cant play it with all of its bugs... whenver i get into an area with more than 4 people the mouse will lag and the controls lag too, and no i dont think that reformatting my hard drive will help because this is the only game that i have any problem like that with, and all of my other games like CS:S run with really high settings and i dont get any frame rate problems or anything like that. I checked and it looks like i already ahve that patch installed , total bummer.

and yeah the most frusterating things is that it looks like it would be really fun, but there is just no way to play it, when you cant even turn to hit your enemies there is just not fun in the game, and its practically impossible.

Even when it works properly Combat is totally screwed. Well, not totally, it just never fealt quite right to me.

I'm not sure why you're encountering these bugs, have you already searched the 'net for similar bugs? Sorry I can't help further, but I too gave up because of the bugs. : ( It's a pity, i wanted to listen to Smiling Jack a bit more - that guy has such awesome voice-acting.

The game only crashed maybe once or twice, during a load screen.

My only gripes with it were that every melee weapon had the same animations/attacks, and the gun play was a bitch... recoil on automatics were worse than DoD:S... crouching would have no effect on the guns. :|

It makes the enemies harder and tougher, but your weapons are actually accurate.

I loved that game. I never had the problem with bugs that so many did, but the load times were horrendous and it didn't run that great. Regardless, great game, one of my favorite RPGs.

You had problems with the load times and performance?
Wow.
Each portion loaded in like 10 secs, and it performed just as well as HL2.

Also, that mod just may warrant a reinstall...

Indeed. He's the voice of Bender (among others) in Futurama. Looks like he's been doing a good amount of voice work in games lately, starring in Gears of War, and appearing in Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII.

I didn't realize there was still such an active fanbase for this game. I may have to download some of those patches/mods and start a new file. This game is easily one of my favorite games ever.

Right-click on the exe in its Program Files folder (or the shortcut to it) and set the compatibility mode for Windows 98. For some weird (probably Direct Input) related reason this seems to fix that problem.

Agreed, one of the best games ever.....i forgot it in my 10 list.
