I'm not sure what he meant by various tweaks and fixes, but here are some config settings I change that help me run hl2dm and css better. They might work for most people too.

cl_rate 20000
rate 25000
cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_smooth 0
cl_interp 0 (do this if you find that your bullets seem to hit more when you shoot behind someone instead of on them, it helps fix it)

My flatmate used to have a problem where Half-Life 2 crashed just after the prison, but he came online and said "yey, halflife 2 works" a few hours ago and I haven't spoken to him since. I guess it works.

And my laptop doesn't restart anymore when I exit Half-Life 2.

So I think there have been some important fixes.
