Has anyone else gotten that Steam update about having an outdated video driver? Well, I went to the sites they suggested, downloaded all the different stuff, and none of them did anything?

I have a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800, does anyone know how I can improve that to Steam standards?

Yeah. I had to do that myself. Fixed it right up. :) Except I didn't have to disable my antivirus to install the new driver.

Just, when you uninstall it in the Hardware Properties, be sure to remove the NVIDIA folder in your C:/ before you reboot. The uninstaller won't do it for you; even after you reboot, it's still there.

You might say "why bother? It'll just overwrite the files". I still wouldn't risk it.

Some Anti-Virus softwares do prevent from Nvidia drivers to install properly, Nvidia didn't name them in their "Read Me" file, and I wont either, but the fact remains.
To uninstall, if you select to uninstall all personal settings and preferences in Nvidia Display Driver Uninstall option, the whole driver along with the rest of settings and personal data would be uninstalled.
But if you uninstall the whole folder, you must know that; Nvidia does not only provide video drivers, but they also provide other stuff like South-bridge chipset driver, Motherboard drivers, Gart drivers, network controller drivers, etcetera, so you must be extra careful which invidia folder driver you manually delete. You can end up with an unstable system as the result of careless deletion.

Good Luck.

Hey thanks!

I actually got the thing up, finally... but it says that "it cannot find any compatible software"... ???? Steam definitely says that I need new drivers, but for some reason it doesn't want to give it to me.
