was the possibility of early activation ever confirmed?

Like everyone else, I read the thing about possible early activation on shacknews, but I didnt really want to believe it since it was not confirmed. Personally, I doubt that this was ever the case, and I doubt that it will be activated early through steam. Now a few weeks later, has there been an official word on this from Valve or Vivendi?

People have said it was, but I have yet to see it myself. I would love to see the wording on that.

I would think it might be possible if HL2 was leaked. But people already have HL2 in their hands, and VALVe knows this, yet HL2 remains inactive. So cleary they're not releasing it just because a broken street date.

So still, no official confirmation, just word of mouth from this Steve Gibson guy. I'll bet anything that Steve here misunderstood or got some bad information. Untill we here from VALVe themselves, I dont believe it. And really, the proof is in the activation, or current lack thereof.
