weird graphics problems, vertical lines

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 128, 512 MB Ram, Athlon X2 3800. I have the latest drivers for my video card, ad have tried Omega drivers as well. While running the Steam HL2 and Source games, from any character or monster in the game, I get these weird vertical lines running up or down from the character. From people, they look like really tall isoceles triangles going up. From monsters, like ceiling hangers, there are simply a ton of vertical lines. I have seen several people with this problem for this vid card, but no solution. Emails to Valve have gone unanswered, and after 60 bucks for the Steam package, I am kinda ticked off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Any screenshots? I've never had any lines-problem with HL2 and I have the same vid card.

Yea the 9800 pro is known to overheat alot; which I believe is the problem.
Try poping in a different video card and see what happens.

Well, I found the solution for the problem> I replaced the newest catalyst drivers with 4.11 drivers and problem gone.
