What are your thoughts on HL2's multiplayer?

Half-Life 2 will have Counter-Strike: Source for it's multiplayer mode. Whata re your thoughts?

Edit: I voted I don't care, because I am buying the game for single player + mods. Deathmatch really never interested me.

I never really got into HLDM, so am perfectly happy with CS:S being the HL2 MP.

However, noone has said that there will not be a HLDM:S with HL:S.
People may still get their DM yet.

my thoughts: they've prepared something special and new for multiplayer but they didn't have time to perfect it so instead of stressing about that alongside with all the release issues they decided to make a multiplayer expansion pack out of it. kind of makes sense to me

Well either way, it doesn't exist. So we can sit here and debate about what Valve may have had planned but scrapped.

I personally think Valve thought there was no way they could create a spectacular MP and SP at the same time. So they took the most popular FPS on the planet and converted to source. I'm certainly not arguing with that because i love CS and still play it regularly after 4 years.

I've been out of the loop on HL2 stuff, I didn't even know it was confirmed. It sucks, and anyone saying otherwise is lying to themselves.

BTW, even though I'm disheartened by the news, I can honestly say this: I FREAKIN TOLD YOU SO. One would think that Valve dodging the MP question for so long was for a reason. Oh right, it was because they wanted to keep it a "secret" lol.

I'm almost happy of the news because it is a serious "stfu" message to all the die-hard fanboys on this site who would wildly flame anyone who made mere mention of the possibility of no HL2 mp mode. It's always a good thing to see those dumbasses proved wrong

Had to add one final mini-rant in: It's really funny to me how quickly opinions have changed here. The general consensus on this subject here was "Of course Valve is going to have a HL2 mp mode guys! They aren't stupid I mean c'mon!". Now it's "Who cares anyway, CS:S is good enough. It's no big deal!"

I had good thread going about this before some moderator closed it for some unknown reason. 69 replies in 2 hours!
Any rate CS:S is goog, but the HL2DM would have been another classic. The original was designed for the Internet Play of 1998 which was mostly dial-up folks. I ran Thunderdome for HL1DM off my cable modem in 3/2000 for 2 years. HL1DM was a combined strategy/deathmatch game. The weapons had many purposes. I was a master of trip-mine warfare (have engineering background) and used them for stairs and as a perch to snipe from. I used snarks as scouts to find targets around corners. The texturing was lame, but again, it was for 1998-1999 technology.
Imagine what a HL2DM would have been luck with Valve's classic touch.

OK, I'm sorry, but I just don't think anyone should refuse to buy a game because it's not shipping with a mode of multiplayer. I mean, come on. You know someone's going to have that mod out within the first week. I am sorry for the way I put it bluntly, and didn't back up my opinion, but that's all it was. An opinion. Maybe Valve has a Deathmatch mod, but plan on releasing it after the game's gone retail. Most likely not, but it's a possibility.

counterstrike would be a bit more better if it had some variation in gamemodes. like maybe a CTF with spawning. sure most people would prefer the old style, but some like modes like CTF too.

Its not that i dont think HL2 will be the best game of year (Now that CS:S is its only mp, it looks like Halo 2 is gonna take that trophy) but its just that after everything we've seen happen over at Valve, it just really gets to you after a while. If CS:S was/is the only MP portion for Half-Life 2 i would've liked a direct answer from someone at Valve, but instead we just kept getting all these cryptic answers like "we'll see what we can do....." and "CS:S is the only multiplayer port that will ship with HL2" instead of "CS:S IS HL2's multiplayer"

also I saw GTA:San Adreas.. wasnt really interested before, but after reading about it and checking out the vids... even I have to admit it looks pretty damn nice (for a ps2 game) I might have to pick up a ps2 to play it (recently been playing a lot of Vice city)
