what does gabe do?

Gabe can code if needed, remember he did use to code for microsoft ;)
 
One person should e-mail him. Bare in mind I just said one person.

If someone wants to do it then post here to let everyone know you're going to do it.
 
I would imagine does a number of things in the game... from coding>input on art direction maybe>lots of things

Usually the person who coordinates the project is flexible in all areas of game development (unless they have a senior programmer already)

also he probably does the official announcements and stuff from a company perspective

He got awards from microsoft for his work in advanced research? IIRC (coding) ... pretty smart guy

i heard he's real nice too
 
I imagine he's too busy running the company to write much code, but he's probably able to give serious technical input. The architecture of Source sounds to me like something that gets decreed from on high.
 
Yes he also worked on microsoft Bob.

Probably why he left microsoft :P

I would imagine he organises day to day office life, and is probably in charge of hiring and firing :P
 
He wasn't making enough money at Microsoft because Bill was hogging it all. :P
 
heh i think Gabe was pretty "well off" when he founded valve, and through the production of HL. In fact if it wasn't for him having to much money during the hard times in HL it probably would have never seen the light of day.
 
No, Gabe was one of the guys who started early enough at Microsoft to get tons of stock options. Gabe, demonstrating intelligence, got out BEFORE everything went to hell, and was sitting on a HUGE pile of coin.

As for questions : I dont know..
Ask him the average wage of his employee's, afterall it's out of his pocket, does he pay them the average rate for mappers/programmers/artists etc, or more?

I know he wasnt in the group that started way back at the very begging (assuming Priates of sillicon valley is all truth). I think he got it after they got a decent office and was promising that Windows 1.0 was comming out (heaps of delays there lol). Since those people that worked for them then got some stocks. ( i think im right with that).
 
He sits in the corner waiting for the programmers to finish the thing and then counts all the money. :bounce:

Seriously though, Gabe is in charge of distributing them sacks of money. He has funded a lot of the company though his own money
