What happened to half-life2 being held hostage?

Erm, the theory is that Vivendi is losing money on Steam [pre]orders, so they'll want to release it sooner. Valve can't distribute the game until Half-Life 2 is retail (dunno if that means gold or on-shelves). The court case (begins in March) has no effect on the release date.

er, well we still don't have HL2 so i guess it's still being held??? :|

Gamespot said that Vivendi could delay HL2 for 6 months if they wanted to, and suddenly everyone thinks that's what Vivendi are planning to do. For all we know it's still in testing, and to think that Vivendi will hold HL2 until after Christmas is just unrealistic thinking.

*agrees*.

They just want to sell it in nov when grandma will buy little joey that wee game half-life2 for christmas.

Just like when Gabe said if they had to delay HL2 to 2005, they would, just to make it better.

Don't worry people, it's all cool.

Yeah VU realized that they were losing money every minute that they delayed HL2 because the average fan was thinking "Hmm, if I buy over steam I get CSS now or should I wait 6 months for VU to release it." So I guess they knew they wouldn't get as much money, then all of a sudden they care about the fans once money is involved.

Until the game goes Gold, VUg is not holding up anything. HL2 is either being tested or fixed. VUg cannot sit on HL2 in the pre-gold phase!!

... drama queens.
