what have valve done to the water?

ever since the recent update, the water i WAS using in my WIP was looking good (nature/water_wasteland002a - it's one of the ones using the default checkerboard editorimage), now it appears to glow in the dark and the reflections are significantly paler than the world being reflected. anyone know what's up with that?

(btw the water in the screenshot has a built cubemap but i run under full DX9 so it reflects all)

it's all like that in Smod, overbright. should be all fixed soon, plz
 
ok it appears they screwed up all the water. anyone played the game recently? is ALL the water messed up and overbright?

ffs...
 
anything with a reflective surface seems to be messed. it just looks over exaggerated right now. i personally havent seen expensive water in my map but i do have a metal texture and this one rock texture....it looks like someone waxed my map and buffed it.
 
yep the entire game now looks like total pants (example screen attached)

I thought my HL2 map had over exaggerated wet plaster walls 0_0
 
Lol, the game looks more like Burnout 3 Takedown with over the top specular maps :|
 
Ok so they fixed hammer, now when are they going to fix this?
 
Never will it be fixed! It's new because AMD want to show that the game is now shiny with 64 bit.
 
Those transitions aren't always that good I agree. I often see cubes with shallow water, followed by the deeper water furtheron. I don't have much more to complain about the graphics though.. It all looks pretty neat.
 
reflections in water should always be darker than than the objects they reflect, as in real life. valve have just got it wrong i'm afraid

i think these people saying the water looks better haven't seen it in a night time setting

sorry, but the changes are a ****up. same with the excessive shine on specmapped surfaces. not even shiny the gleaming polish dog is that shiny irl
 
i started playin sp and ive gotten to the part with the airboat....water looks as it should because the suns out and gleaming on the water. havent gotten to a night time setting yet....so i couldnt tell you my opinion on it.
 
Its not just the water- its anything even remotely reflective.
