what is best heap size for 2gig of memory

Hi all,
Is there a limit on how much heap size to give to all of HL2 games Counter strike, day of defeat ect....
Is there a sweet spot.

so 512mb ram - heapsize 256000

Really now? I start the game and open console it says Heap:1000 Mb.
