Hi I was wondering what is the best AMD motherboard and chip for both single and dual motherboards? Also what type of Ram should I get with it, and I have no idea how much it would be..
Thanks

Depends on what type of AMD cpu you're talking about, like the AMD64 or the Athlon XP series. If by dual motherboard you mean dual cpu, as far as I know that's not really worth it unless you use development apps (3d rendering etc) or run a server.
The RAM again depends on the cpu and the socket it uses. In most cases you would want standard PC3200 DDR.

the fx-f3 something or other at liek 3800+ thatll be coming with the nforce 4 will be the shiz, i m to white to say nit,

AMD FX-53 and some sweet DDR2 RAM(2x512 mb) , grab a high priced mobo that supports both and your set.

-The Best AMD CPU for Socket 940 is the Opteron 150/Athlon 64 FX 53, with the 148 and 146 following. Models begining with a 2 instead of a 1 can work in a Dual CPU configuration (E.G. Opteron 250).
The Asus K8T800 is the best board for Socket 940 (Single CPU).
For a Dual system either check out the MSI K8T Master2 for an awesome board with a lot of speed and possibility for Desktop and Workstation tasks or the Tyan Thunder boards (Not tiger) for a good Workstation and Server use.

-The Best AMD CPU for Socket 939 is the Athlon 64 FX 53, with the 3800+ and 3500+ following.
Either Nvidia's nForce3 Ultra or VIA's K8T800 chipset are great for Socket 939 built by Abit, Asus and MSI. I perfer Nvidia here.

-The Best AMD CPU for Socket 754 is the 3700+ followed by 3400+ and 3200+.
Nvidia's nForce3 250 is the best chipset with Asus and MSI as the better brands.

If you plan to use more than 1GB of memory, choose a Socket 940 platform which uses Registered Memory that will allow you to maintain performance. Link

DDR2 at only 400 or 500 speeds? ew

DDR2 is only supported on the LGA775 platform so far. It won't be until at least late 2005 when we get certification for DDR2-667 and above that AMD will support it. It won't be until then that DDR2's high latency won't be an issue for performance.
By the way, DDR2 will be a Socket change for AMD.

Until then I'd perfer the low latencies of DDR along with the faster speeds available today, DDR400, 433, 466, 500, 533, 550, and 566. *DDR400 is the highest DDR Memory recognized as a standard by motherboards.

You know if AMD is gonna change sockets again for DDR2 what's the point of getting a socket 939 unless it's and FX-53? Cause they still plan to use 754 and 939 right? I know when the 939 ones came out they said they'd still be using 754, they're starting to get a lot of sockets.

lol I dont know anything about DDR2 besides that its faster, lol, my bad.

DDR is quick and fast.

DDR2 is a half step to better Memory. It allows for lower power and faster speeds but it isn't as quick (latency). Only at high speeds (DDR2-667) does the high lantency not affect performance noticeably.

DDR3 is the complete transition with low power, quick and very fast speeds with better all around performance.

Just because it's 2 doesn't mean better. ;)
