What just happened?

Alright, so I was playing TF2, and I got this new Item. It did not have an image, and its sub-title was level 50 Map. When I went into my inventory to see what it was, my game crashed (Probably because of the new updates and ect.). Now I can't start up TF2 to see what it is going on because of the slow downloading (I'll tell you what it is when/if I find out). In my excitement for Meet the Medic and Free TF2, I forgot the real name of the item, but it was not a normal name. Now I was NOT playing on a vanilla server, so It may have something to do with the server. I want to know, is this normal?

You got a drop from the item server of a new hat that shows you paid for the game before it was free. Your game wasn't updated so it didn't know what the item was and had a panic attack. Just update your game and you should be fine.
