What should I buy?

I'm thinking of buying Half Life 2 but i'm unsure which of these i should buy. I'm not actually sure what each pack contains and which is best value.

Any help would be very useful:

Game of the year edition

or

Holiday collection

Definitely the Holiday Collection. GotY includes HL:S, which is by far -not- the best port ever made, but the Holiday thing has Episode One, which is purrdy. If you really really want to play Counter-Strike (I've never liked it, too repetitive, but it has its fans ), then GotY is what you want to get, but IMO Holiday is a much better deal.

Pretty much what Mahalis says. If you really like/want Counter-Strike, get GotY, otherwise, get Holiday. Well, if you get GotY, you'll still want to buy Episode 1 after that, which is in Holiday. Anyway, if you decide you must have one of the other games, you can buy it separately on Steam afterwards.

Going along with the original poster (the first who posted), which, should I get? The Collector's Edition or just the GoTY version? The collector's one sure looks good...

No. The retail Holiday Pack does not contain CS:S.
