Why was G-man headed back into the slow-time warp at the beginning of Ep. 1? Literally seconds had only passesd in the real world so no events happened that would require Gordon's help. He was upset at the Vorts saving him so it couldn't have been the reactor/trasmission. What's the deal here? Somehow I have the feeling when the story is finally revealed in the coming months or years that things that happened in Half-life, 2, and Ep.1 won't make any sense once we get the whole picture.

Seconds hadn't passed. It was more like hours. What happened was:

1. End of HL2 - you were put into stasis.
2. Immediately after the G-man leaves you drift into "sleep."
3. In this sleep you dream of what Dr. Breen said and you see through the eyes of the vortigaunts rescuing Alyx Vance. THIS occurred almost immediately after you were whisked away.
4. The G-man comes and wakes you up. Once you're awake the vortigaunts free you.
5. When you wake up it's already been a few hours. If I recall correctly Alyx said she'd been trying to get ahold of her father for hours (could be wrong on that, memory's a little fuzzy about that part). But they'd been searching for you for awhile.

And remember that the G-man operates outside of normal space time...even if we assume that those events all happened within a few real-world seconds (which they didn't), the G-man could've been making deals for like a day or a week in his time.

I guess you're right. Still seems weird that G-man would even bother to put him out if he was needed just hours later in Earth time compared to many many years between 1 and 2. My guess is he wasn't needed but it was more for the purposes of the video showing the vortigaunts taking gordon against G-man's will. I mean, he just so happens to pop in at the exact same time the vortigaunts are there. And I'm still skeptical about G-man's power over time at this point. I still think some of this is for the players sake rather than Gordon's dreams, like number 3.

Hard to tell if you were seeing what actually happened or it was a dream. You know for sure that the vorts saved Alyx though.

That's not quite what I mean. I believe everything that happened is true, I'm trying to say did Gordon see these things in his dreams, thereby knowing how Alyx was saved. Or was this just for the player's sake so WE know how she was saved. Heh, keep in mind these are only my opinions so don't get too mad at me :O .

No idea...I didnt think he was dreaming until I read this thread....but seeing the Combine Screen flying through space with Breen on it seems off if it wasnt a dream

Eh, I guess it's not really that important anyways...I just have alot of questions about the storyline that other people don't question too often. Little minor details that don't appear to matter.

Perhaps he put Gordon in stasis to save him from the blast, then planned to get him out after the blast ceased to be a threat.

Or maybe he just got a new offer. Some other party, now having witnessed the power of Freeman (I wager the Combine), realized he'd be an invaluable asset and contacted our favorite man in blue. That was my impression, at least. He walked in with this seeming glow in his eyes and was about to tell you "Well, well, another job so soon! WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS, LAD!"

Of course, the vorts kinda screwed that up.

There's that along with the whole screwy time/space stasis thing.

Well if you ask me I dont really trust a guy who would put you in stasis for years on end. I can see it would keep Gordon out of trouble and safe but it seems Gordon can handle his self well enough. The G-Mans motive are very questionable. I personally think he has his own agenda and he is using Freeman. As for the Vortigrunts I think they figuered things out and now they want to protect Gordon. I mean, come on there peaceful presence on earth is not a coincidence. Did the benifactors just abandon them after Black Mesa
