remember, there was this "super cool" game that was being developed about a half a year ago by some russian comp. and it never got released (maybe it did, but i haven't heard anything) anyway, anybody remember that game's name?

yeah, thats what it was, thanks man, this post can be deleted

Well currently, it has a form off unofficial release date of September this year, due to THQ having stated to GSC(The devs) that if the current build quality and polish keeps up in the coming build, they'll release it in September, and January 2k7, as many who don't keep up seem to think is the release date is actually the FINAL fallback date afaik, i.e., if GSC hasn't got a stable product for THQ by then, I'm going to assume that THQ will stop funding the project completely.:)

The other side of the argument is that it has become a joke like Duke Nukem Forever - take your pick
e3 in a weeks time should settle the debate between Gargantou's optimism and mine ;)

Yes we will!:D
"After a year's break S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, published worldwide by THQ (but for the territory of ex-USSR), is to be demonstrated at E3. The press-only presentation featuring a live singleplayer demo will be held at THQ booth (South Hall booth #1324)."
Great, finally! It'll be interesting to see what the media will say!:D
Anyway john, you have to understand I want to be optimistic, there's no game quite like STALKER either in development or released imo :)
Not to mention I've been following it since like 2002/2003.:p

Same - I'd dearly love to see Stalker blow us all away and the thought of Stalker, Spore, Crysis and Armed Assault all coming in the next 12 months is almost too good to be true

which it more than likely is - too good to be true that is
Crysis will probably disappoint and Stalker won't live up to its legend. :(
But we live in hope.....

Actually, I have a similar question that I can use your thread for.

There is a new Japanese looking game where you play the part of a dog, and when you see a dead tree, you circle it and it becomes full of life. What is that game? It looks awesome. I think I saw a trailer of it on gamespot the other day, but they didn't say what it was.

One of the devs said it's either coming out in 2006 or never. So it won't be DNF.

Unfocused, yup, but not only the devs, the publishers too whom have been funding the game..:)
Can't wait for E3 now.. So many games that'll be showing up..

how is that any stranger than playing Sonic the hedgehog or about half of the other games out there?

You control a dog that runs round and does stuff. It looks really really cool IMO, reserve your judgment until you have seen it. I promise you will think it looks interesting.

well I can't say I'm not intrigued

although I must admit the last time I played a game similar to Sonic was nearly 15 years give or take :)

OK I found it. Let me finish eating my pizza, and gather up some videos, images, and articles on it and I'll create a thread in general games chat here in a few minutes.

excellent news, I hop there will be news on Dx10 version of stalker.....

Mate, do you have any idea how much work that'd take?_-_
Atleast if you're talking about adding a ton of new effects etc..
Anyway, if there's gonna be a DX10 version of STALKER, I'd assume it'll be STALKERs sequel.. And I'll expect STALKERs sequel to appear quicker than STALKER did(if STALKER sells okay/good) because now they already have the very complex AI system to juts use and update a lil' for STALKER2..
Besides that, trust me, DX9 STALKER is atleast just as impressive in terms of effects as UE3.0 is..:)
Fully dynamic REAL SOFTSHADOWS that blur over the distance they're cast etc, dynamic clouds(afaik), heck, iirc their's even dynamic terrains that alters them randomly during special weather events or w/e. Not sure if you get to see it realtime though as iirc that special weather is lethal..:p
