The literally hundreds of new people joining in the past week that are such complete assholes and dickheads that they have nothing to ever add to the forum but bullshit and bitching. It's really getting annoying when I can read a thread title, and already predict the persons join date and number of posts, and 99% of the time I'm right. Nov. 2004, Posts: 1-8
 
Can a mod please close this thread,it has nothing to do with hl2 and is just a case of someone who has over 3000 posts thinking he is better than everyone else,a total waste of time.
 
Well done, maybe next time you can form a complete sentence.
 
frankly, i keep wondering what are the mods up to. before HL2 was released, the smallest of faux-pas could get your thread locked/deleted/moved and in some cases, get you banned.

now all i see is duplicate X 50 threads (gman pics, reverse speech zombies, endgame discussion,.. < far from exhaustive list), constant trolling/pointless posts and threads.

too busy playing HL2 ?
 
Yeah, I agree. How did it come to his?

The fastest way to see if somebody is a newbie or not (don't get me wrong, there are a lot of nice newbies) is if they have an avatar or not. :P
 
Yes some threads are stupid,but most forums have that.I am a 'newbie' on these forums,i felt it was a good place to hang after my steam forums experience.I do not think it is like the steam forums here although maybe it could be if they migrate this way...argh.

If a thread starts that you feel is not up to your standards,simply do not post in that thread.Eventually they will get tired of being ignored and piss off back to the steam powered cess pit and we can rejoice!! Until then i do not feel that creating threads about it will help the matter at all,more like make it alot worse as the ex steamites will be annoyed. :devil:

I know what I'd do, just leave the forums off the leach for a while, because there's just too much input of new users. Its a days job keeping it tidy atm, so I think they just try to clean out the excesses and wait till the board calms doan a bit.

We have no time for that...back on topic. I think people feel the need to critise something either because they are devoted to another game (Halo 2 or Doom3) or because they like provoking us! :imu:

This is my third post also.
But even if I had 3,662 posts, I wouldn't make such flawed generalisations.
 
Honestly i couldnt care less if you tell me to go blow a goat...or if you call my a hypocrite. By you telling me to do that is contradicting any feeble attempt at a counter-argument you might be trying to make. Look around (us who have been here longer than 3 hours), people are joining left and right, posting mind numbing bullshit, repeating threads over and over again, making pointless threads, killing all the good threads, and posting nothing but senseless bullshit. I'm not saying its ALL of you, but most people who have recently joined are ****ing these forums up. We used to see the good threads on the first page for at least a good hour or two. Now, you make a thread and its 5 pages back within 15 minutes, and in front of it are "LOOK GMAN IS HERE!!!" and "ZOMBIE BACKWARDZ GIVEZ YOU COOL SOUNDZ" and "I DONT GET TEH STOREH??" threads. Its rediculous.

okay point taken.
But it is to be expected after such a big release.
But nothing short of heavy moderation could stop this or an IQ test before registering.
 
If you're really that bothered about what someone posts on a gaming forum on the internet, or the direction a forum is going on, then u really do need to get a life.

I know this is probably my second or third post here, and yes I realize that I just registered this month, but that doesn't mean you shouldnt take me seriously.
I'm an Administrator at another fairly popular website. Now I seriously doubt we get as many visitors as this forum does, but I do know that moderating posts is not an easy thing. I don't know how many you guys have, but cut them some slack. The sudden influx of new members is not easy to handle. Yes I understand the "newbies" are often obnoxious, but if they bother you that much, take a break from the forums.
You really are taking this whole thing too seriously.

I do not want your respect so you can keep it as i do not respect you in any way,shape or form.From what i have read of your posts YOU are the obnoxious one and yes elitism is pathetic.

Stop whining about 'ohhh it used to be soo nice here but now its all crap'. I suggest you actually get a life and,as suggested by another 'newbie') take a break from these forums as it seems its all getting a wee bit much for you.

and your the only one talking about elitism. i never once said ive been here longer so im better than you. theres ppl with 10 posts who joined in may of 2003, who have contributed more than people with 9,000 posts. what im saying, if u have any reading comprehension skills, is that most new people joining lately are complete imbeciles. you taking offense to it is just plain sad.

I belive, that the reason this elitism exists is so that people can seperate themselfs from people they belive are assholes, idiots etc. But most often than not people who aren't assholes get affected, like now. But I do agree with Shinra, there are ALOT of people posting repeat threads and the mods aren't really doing alot about it imo.

Oh yeah, One Day, look to the right of your post, there's a button called edit. You can use that instead of having to post another reply.

Yes thats fair comment,but im sure all this will die down after time,the game is still fresh and new at the moment.I do get annoyed at that sort of attitude though,i just feel like telling them to piss off,why should i bow down to anyone just because they have posted loads in a forum?

it is logical that the more you "do things" (in this case, post) in the context of a community, the more known you are and generally the more listening you get. what he was criticizing (and, as far as i know, he has a point) is that people who never been here before show up without reading the rules, make innumerable duplicate threads, don't use the "search" button (i admit it has never been a trend but now it's really showing up) and generally drown threads who could be considered as "good" or pertinent with, let's say it, useless and pointless posts+threads. - everyone lost track of how many "OMG POST PICS OF GMAN LOL!!1" and "LISTAN TO THE REVARSE ZOMBIE ITS FANNY!!111" threads there are, and i'm not mentioning the sound stutter bug and the ending ones.

in the end, this all contribute to, let's say it again, bring this forum to a wreck. halflife2.net is generally known for being a community for younger people. i do not want to make any generalisation about younger people's maturity, but let's say my last sentence speaks for itself. couple this with the incontestable fact that mods, either because of the massive user flood of these past days or because they're too much busy doing something else (playing half life 2, most likely) have been, imho, extremely passive, and and you get what ShinRa complains about. and imo he's pretty much right. people with no regards for anything such as "rules" and good sense show up and bring this forum to what is it now bother me too, but it's a (somewhat) inevitable thing.


on a completely unrelated matter, check your word definitions before using them. "your" elitism is NOT elitism. elitism is a noble value that consists in getting yourself better and a group of the "best" persons deciding on the whereabouts of the people, all this based on aristocratic values. and these values are NOT "having more posts" :|
 
i agree with shinra, although i myself dont have very many posts. its ok if there are a lot of new people, but if all they do is talk shit then it turns into a large, and very annoying, problem....

ps. i HAVE been registered for a hwile though :P
 
This has gone on long enough.

Anyone can contribute to this forum, no matter their postcount or knowledge. You can't assume everyone is up to speed with you.
