The game does take place in May 200X. The calendars are likely the result of lazy scientists. They didn't change the calendars when the year was done.

It's from the PS2 version's manual. On may 11th, the administrator orders the test on the sample. The actual games take place about week after that, since Gordo's hazard course training was scheduled for the 16th.

It's also possilbe that the incident happened before the 16th though, and Gordon just didn't show up for his latest training.

Barney's scheduled training was on may 12th, and Shephard's was way back in March 9th.

Either that, or the texture artist made the calendar in december without being mindful of the plot details.

I prefer the absent-minded professor theory though.
