When was the last time a highly anticipated game came out on the original release date? I cant think of one. If valve somehow manages to release hl2 on Sept.30 it will be a truly amazing achievement. They announce one release date and deliver which is very very rare. If they fail to release it on Sept.30 it will just be another of many highly anticipated games that have fallen victim to a delay. We will find out soon.

Bare in mind HL2 is part of a small minority of games that have a 5 year development phase behind them. Which makes the 9/30 release more likely.

Whilest looking at you're avatar, I just remembered that in HL1 (OP4) a soldier was wearing the exact same mask the combine are wearing....weird how I JUST noticed that...

I just guess it's like the same with stormtroopers, they strike more fear in victims if they're anonymous(spelling?) and it's also cool hearing their Intercom-voices. I don't think the Aliens from the movies (with same name) would be as scary if they had visible eyes.

another question to consider(which ive been trying to figure out) is has a game developer ever waited a week or less before they announce that the game wont make that deadline?

i cant speak for everyone, but for myself, its not a huge deal if they delay. but if they wanted to delay, they should have done it sooner. its almost evil to wait right before the date which has been established since hl2 was announced, and then say, woops, check back in a couple months. i dont believe valve is evil. if this does happen though, it will really change my perspective on valve and their sensitivity to the community.
