I know, I know, sounds like a dumb question, I've gone back to the theves guild guy but he no longer sells them. I've also gone to a few stores in the marketplace, no luck there either. I need them for a quest in the dark brotherhood.:|

There's the Thieves Guild fence up north that sells them with inventory of 100?

Or just get the skeleton key :D

Where do I find said key?

Dunno about the key, but there's a guy somewhere around the perimeter of the imperial city that sells lockpicks for 6 gold. I forget his name, but he looks like a dark brotherhood :shh:

Alright, the skeleton key makes all security a joke (hope you didn't major in the skill). It adds +40 to Security and it's unbreakable, yup no more wasting lockpicks :D

How to get Skeleton Key

1. Get to level 10 (requirement)
2. Go to the Southern-most town on the map (forgot the name, I'll edit it in later)
3. Follow the path and head north-east direction, you'll eventually pass a small town.
4. Go past that town and get off the road to the right, you'll see a big statue with 3 people that's called Shrine of the Nocturnal.
5. Talk to the shrine, you'll be given a quest.
6. Head back to town and ask people about the item you're to acquire (Eye of something), you'll eventually be asked to listen in on two thieves.
7. You'll be given directions on the map via green arrow, follow it and retrieve the eye and return to the Shrine of the Nocturnal.
8. Voila! Skeleton key is yours!

*If you're low-level watch out for Ogres, there's a few of them when I went through.

That's Shady Sam, I think he's right outside of the Imperial Aboratium (sp?) walls.

The skeleton key is maybe the best item in the game, and that includes Umbra/Unicorn/Anything without the skeleton key I would actually have to worry about stupid things like "lockpicks" and "quicksaving before I open a really big chest because I only have 10 picks left and I have a really low security skill"
