Seriously, did we just make that name and presume it was right? Or did somone start a rumor of some sort? Who knows, but for all I care where did Gman get his name. We cant start calling him Gman for no reason. You can just look at him and say, "DOOD HIS NAME IS DA G-MAN!"... Ahem anyways so really it makes no sense. Thanks.

:cat: <- this is a cat.

I think its becuase the people who made the game named his model "Gman" in hl1

And they refer to him as the gman everywhere else.

I think that's right. It's short for God-Man, or Game-Man, or Government-Man; I guess it's open to interpretation. Personally I think it's Government-Man but I don't think we'll never know.

The name G-Man just really "fits" for some reason.

It isn't his name as confirmed by Valve in Riasing the bar.....it is just a term he came to be known by and the character still actually lacks a name.

Didn't know that...

Yeah but it's a fan name, as in half-life everyone thought he worked for government and that's become his nickname. But I very much doubt he works for the government.

No problem Devvo

It's his models name, not his name. Note: I always (well usualy) refer to him as the g-man seeing that Gman isn't his name.

the file name gman.xxx, g for goverment,
some say it's related to gordon, G=gordon, and others say he is the old gordon who traveled from the future

Wot 'e sed.
If he has a proper name, I'm gonna cry 'cause it'll totally ground him and make him rubbish. He'll be called Timothy or something <Shudders>
And if it's Gordon from the future - and he won't be - I'm going on a rampage...

the gman got hes name from being from the goverment that seems like the most obvious answer ,,,, (dun mind my spellin)

That is what people assume, it isn't fact.

He got hiis name because he looks like a governemnt agent

Anyone else remember when people used to call Gman "the man in the blue suit"?

No because I got HL after BS came out.
I used to call him 'who the f*ck is that!'

Yeah, if you read about that Deep Throat guy you'll see the word "G-man" used sometimes.

In the opposing force manual, Shephard refers to him as looking like a g-man.
As everyone said, it's a term for someone who looks like a fed.

I used to call him the "Government Guy".

That is until I found his model file in Deathmatch.

I always thought he was called the "G man" because everyone in the original half-life assumed he was a governement agent. the scientists, the marines, the black ops, everybody. I believe that although is almost cirtainly isnt human that before the events of the original HL he spen quite some time (in human terms) moving up the ranks in the US govenment. How else would he have managed to get the US marines involved and especally the Black ops?

Government-man makes sense. As long as you don't assume we're talking about an earth government.

That kinda makes sense too, considering how G-Man knows how to help Gordon and friends to complete their task. But then it is a bit of a paradox.
