Where the hell is the Hydra? Sorry if it has been asked before.

So I completed the game and found myself asking a question:

We saw all those fancy E3 videos with a blue-ish tentacle and even the art shown on some magazines and reviews show Gordon being strangled by a tentacle.

Where the hell was it in game?

Did I miss it?
Will it be in an expansion pack?
Why wasn't it included in the main game? Time constraints?
Did I miss an article about it being removed?

Can somebody tell me where it was?

it was removed from the game because it looked cool when it attacked others, but was boring to figth against, yourself.

It has been known that it would be gone for a long before the release. And there're hundreds of threads about this.

I think that excuse is pretty horrible, for the record
that's far from an insurmountable design flaw...
