Which Half-Life should I play first?

Hmm? I didn't like HL1 when I first played it (this would be around 1999(?)). I think I quit slightly after the resonance cascade... Anyway. It's hardly unfair to point out that HL2 has much more consistent quality in its levels than HL1.

Eh? Much more consistent level quality? What planet exactly are you on? The level quality is perfectly consistent on hl1...

P.S, if you've never played hl1 then gtfo!

I gave up when I FIRST played HL1. I played through it again some time after I finished HL2.

And no it isn't. Residue Processing is terrible. Don't you understand what quality consistency means?

I disagree. I hated Residue Processing, and Xen/Gonarch/Interloper/Nihilanth were all kind of meh. I don't really think HL1 was very consistent at all. In regards to the thread, HL2>HL1. HL2 is a much better game. The gameplay is tuned perfectly and offers you a much different way to play an FPS. What's more the story is excellent and the narrative delivery genius. Half-life 1 is a good game, but it doesn't really stand up to HL2 IMO.

Well thats your opinion, as i have said many times before, you need variation otherwise the game is boring and samey *cough* water hazard, highway 17, sandtraps *cough*

And WHOA, i just entered an underground bunker at the bottom of a dam, which i somehow reached by randomly driving around in sewers, and whats this, a complete beat up old wooden shack of a town with nothing but zombies... interesting consistency there.

In reply to Samon, Zen was ugly, but you could hardly have the big baddy in the human world, that would be illogical, and an inconsistent storyline, kudos for actually giving a reason for why hl1 is inconsistent though, unlike other people...

I don't play games for constancy, I play them for sheer FUN.

Yeah if you want the story best as possible I would say this:
HL1
blue shift
op4
HL2

I have a question, why play Blueshift First? Because didn't Opposing Force came (was made) before Blue Shift, is there some kind of story extra from playing Blue Shift First?

Blue Shift and HL starts at the same. Opposing force starts later (no aliens, no army)
