NO way with Barney. As for Gordon... I think Valve want to set up the possibilities for a one-to-one emotional connection with her as a character (hence spending the majority of Episode One with her) and whilst this might not be overtly, forced-upon-you romantic (the idea of, for example, kissing in an FPS just doesn't work and would make me feel mildly uncomfortable, to be quite frank).
However I think they probably want the relatonship to be more than platonic, or at least as much as is possible, given the circumstances. Her being a computer game character, and all.

That kinda stuff is the kinda thing HL/2 is, though. Not all of it, of course, but it fits in nicely. As Chi said, I don't want to be doing FPS sequences of kissing a character. I want to be fighting alongside Alyx, not sitting around staring into each others eyes and commenting on how well they look or whatever.
