Who were the other HEV suited people you see in Xen?

In other words, whereas we're just explaining SIMPLY, in UNDERSTANDABLE LANGUAGE, how pathetic the theory is, He's. . . just flaming because he feels power, because HE has a WHOLE 10 more posts D=.

Anyway back on thread, as already discussed Mesa had been going on jaunts to Xen for a while, the HEV suited humans on Xen and all the specimens brought back into the Mesa complex all prove this. I'm not suprised though that there may have been unsuited humans in Xen too though since the cascade sent everything topsy turvy and that may well be just one result. The fact that Mesa personel failed to get a crystal from the Nihilanths chamber and that GMan stepped in and so effectively caused the cascade is of course what this is all about. Saying that though we'd already drawn enough attention our way as it was so maybe the Xenian incursion and/or Combine arrival was all inevitable from that point regardless of whether the GMan gave the matter a shove or not.

OK, "infer" means to draw a conclusion based on logic. A fallacy is when you infer something incorrectly. This is Intro Philosophy/ Logic stuff. So, what I meant was: just because two or more people agree with each other about something doesn't make it true. I think it's actually one of the classic fallacies with a name in Latin, but I couldn't remember what that was.

Jeez. Forgive me for presuming that people who argue about minor plot details of a videogame on the internet (myself, obviously, included) are probably nerds...

In the future I'll try not post on here when I'm stressed and/ or drinking (can't remember which it was...) Sorry.

Anyhow, I was under the impression that Black Mesa, having received contracts from the US Department of Defense (somewhat confirmed via the slideshows in Portal), had developed the HEV suit as a general-purpose protective suit. From Wikipedia:

"The HEV Mark IV suit worn by Freeman in Half-Life has a built-in flashlight, oxygen supply, Geiger counter, morphine administrator (which allows Gordon to function normally even after serious injury), anti-toxin delivery system, an optional long-jumping module which allows jumps over large distances, a radio, and a heads-up display (HUD) which tracks health status and weapon ammunition usage, as well as including a weapons management system. The suit contains an on-board computer system that constantly monitors the user's health and vital signs, and reacts to any changes in the user's condition. Additionally, the suit has an electrically hardened armor system that can be charged by power modules throughout Black Mesa. While charged, the suit provides greater protection from injury as the charge absorbs more than two-thirds of any damage or trauma experienced by the wearer. With a fully charged suit, Freeman can survive several dozen bullets of small arms fire or even a direct hit from a rocket propelled grenade."

That would no doubt make an excellent hazard suit, to be mass-produced for anything from lab research to various military applications (Of course some versions of the suit might have certain features disabled, as lab researchers have no need for a weapons management system :P). I would also presume that the HEV suit was still going through the prototyping process, which is why we don't see more than a couple dozen suits throughout the entire saga, but had reached a point of reliability and usefulness in the process that allowed Black Mesa to train and outfit a number of scientists with the suit.

The suits would only be used during testing which required protection from the outside environment, for a number of reasons. One, it would not be cost-effective for Black Mesa to manufacture enough suits for the entire research team to wear all or even some of the time - let alone the entire Black Mesa staff - because of the aforementioned constant prototyping process, as building five hundred or even twenty new suits for every single update would bankrupt the entire facility. Two, less general use of the suits ensures that they are not accidentally damaged, leaving all suits in good repair for scientific use and cutting down on replacement costs. Three, if there are few HEV suits, and lots of experiments being conducted, allowing scientists to wear them only when undergoing dangerous research would leave more suits free for any given experiment at any given time.

So it follows that the only times we'd ever really see the suits is in Xen, where researchers would have probably been killed while wearing them.

during the resonance cascade, lots of headcrabs, bullsquids and vorts were randomly teleported into black mesa. maby those guys were working with other, less pure fragments of the stuff that cuased the cascade, and so were randomly teleported to xen.
you feel kinda sorry for them when you think of it like that.

The bodies in HEV suits were simply other scientists from the Lambda research facility who were killed while on Xen "collecting" things.

It was Dr. Kleiner himself who said just before your trip to Xen that "we've been there collecting samples for some time before it was WE who began being collected"..... or something to that note.
 
"Until they started being collected themselves", and it's not Kleiner. He calls you "Mr. Freeman, while Kleiner always says Gordon.
 
Hmm... i just played the game and the it was the Dr. Kleiner character. And he addresses you as "Gordon Freeman". I just re-played the savegame I have at that exact point to confirm.
