Now before you start saying "it's just a beta test for the netcode", I know that most of you are aware that the current seals and phoenix models will mostly likely not change (I hope I'am wrong though)

I was really hoping valve would read this thread - the current models for cs:s aren't really that good looking - at least not at par with any HL2 model (including the NPCs). Yes it is a MP game, yes we need all the FPS, but for today's standard of graphics the models aren't that particularly good. There does seem a total lack of bump or normal mapping and while the animations are fantastic - the models themselves kinda look boring. The phoenix has a "pointy" cone head that looks pretty stupid and the eyes which are supposedly source's charm look textured - and don't seem to have that wet and gloss we saw in G-man's or in other HL2 models. The grenade thing is a nice touch, but the pouches don't seem filled and often flat.

I was hoping that the cs:s models at least had the "abs" or muscles bulging out like in games such as Far cry or doom 3 - but considering that these guys are running around de_dust with heavy weaponary - their anatomy reminds me of thin tall men, than broad and musclar hardened warriors. C'mon valve - make them detailed and bumpy so that they look like proper fighting men. :) I mean even the HL2 monsters seem to be more detailed than these folks.

Otherwise I love the animations - I just want the models to look nice too, they do look considerably low poly (for a 2004 game) and there are some people who have been holding on a radeon 9600+/fx5700+ cards since last year just to see this kind of detail, and having seen it so in games like D3 and Far cry, makes us more intrigued at how they'll look considering source's amazing ability to create realistic humans.

Just my 5 cents. :)

omgomgomgomomgomgomg flame!!!! j/k, i barely get good fps right now with 9800pro, i dont want any lower than that

Actually more detailed player models wouldn't have much effect on your frame rate unless the CS-Dev team create Unreal3 style models. But we haven't seen the other six models, who knows maybe they have something special in store for us, maybe they re-did the seal and phoenix models too :)

ok, i got 512mb ram, 2.26ghz windows xp, sp1, 9800pro 128mb, 400 core, 360 mem, catalist 4.8 and my average fps in test is 73, whats with that?

Go join a 40 player server. Then tell me you want more detaild models...

Even on some 16 player servers my fps drops to 30 in a gunbattle inside the building with smoke nades...

thats what custom models are for

The mouths dont move when they speak which and theres only one models coupled with this being beta which leads me to believe they are rushed and not complete models.

I wouldnt expect much more though, look at the clothes and face close up, theyre brilliant. Turn up your AA and AF.

From what I hear the models we see know are placeholders. Work on all the final ones is almost done.

Yeh the model animations are very nice, and i think the SEAL skin is good and the Phoenix one aint bad, but yeh the cone head sucks lol. I think one thing that would be really good is you can see EVERYTHING a person buy, not just the grenades, i really wanted to be able to see what my team mates have on them, such as pistols and main weapons ( when they are holstered ) etc and i REALLY wanted to see enemies that were wearing Armour or not, but this never happened. That was a real dissapointment for me.

Well you need to consider they still need to impliment

- A flashlight
- Mouths moving when the players speaking
- A proper method of the bomb being on a player

dude, its counter strike source... not counter strike 2...

There is a flashlight, but it's disabled by default.

ya, lots of people dont even know the existance of flash light in css, it looks quite nice, too bad in css, or cs, flash light does jack
