Why Alyx lied?

I just noticed that when you enter the Rebel Base, when you meet those rebels with rocket launchers, one guy asks Alyx that "You are Dr. Kleiner's dother, right?". Then Alyx replys: "No, my father is Odessa Cubbage".

So wtf. Was it just joke or why did she said that?
 
Dude, listen to it...It's something called "sarcasm", ever heard about that?

B: She may have noticed a tone of hostility towards the science team and decided it was best not to be associated with them
 
Although I vote Sarcasm.

Those rebels where the whiniest rebels I've ever come across. A drastic change from "RELOAD DR FREEMAN!"-shouting, manically grinning Freedom Fighters who cheerfully stand in doorways stopping you moving to cover.
 
Quite strange that Alyx would be sarcastic when all the rebel was innocently asking was if she was Eli's daughter. So she was probably trying to keep a low profile about it for some reason.
 
The rebel was asking if she was Kleiner's daughter, not Eli's. It's just a sarcastic joke, though.
 
Wasn't it a Easter Egg from when HL2 was pre-alpha, when they did a lot of shifting around character relations?
 
Yes, Alyx was originaly the daughter of a character known as Captain Vance (His model is one of the civilans in CSS now) and wasn't related to Eli (Who at one point looked quite like Kleiner does now) but I doubt it's a reference to that.
 
This is what I dont get about these people, if they have a problem with a thread, then why post in it?
 
I'm not complaining, I'm just saying so. Stupid threads give me something to laugh at.
 
How did she say it? Did she say it, then make a stupid 'lol' smile at you? Or did she say it seriously. ??? I don't remember that part.
 
It was at the part where Dr Kliener said its time to "Mate" in one of the rooms on tv, she said sarcastically and looked at you after that.

And Azner, the thing on TV is just a loop of Kleiner; it's on the big screens as well. She says "Is Dr. Kleiner telling us all to... *something like 'get jiggy with it' but i forget the exact wording'*"

She's responding to some idiot rebel.

Im shocked you acutally thought that. When I first played Episode One, I laughed at how she said that. Obviously you did not.
