Why didn't the combine just kill all the rest of the humans in c17?

wouldn't it have been alot easyer to just kill all the humans is c17/other cities instead of having them just die off?
 
I do believe Breen negotiated with the Combine that humans would surrender, no more would be killed (at least intentionally) and Breen would give the Combine local teleport tech via Mossman/Eli.
 
Well, it seems that when Dr. Breen was negotiating with the Combine, they wanted to stop human reproduction. It wouldnt make any sense for Breen to come up with it ("hey, while we surrender, could you doom us to extinction?"). From his breencasts, he seems to be trying to convince the Combine to turn off the suppression field by showing all the neat things transhumans could do. The fact that after about 20 years, the Combine still didnt see the point in letting humanity survive, suggests that Breen was doomed to failure.
 
They wanted our teleportal technology, and Breen promised to give it to them if they kept us alive. Of course, now Breen failed and the Combine got word of it, so they are gonna pwn earth in Ep 2. :p

Also, opposable thumbs. They loved our opposable thumbs.

Maybe they just wanted to see what they could make out of us.

The announcer mentions units being sent off world, maybe Humans are on their way to becoming a permanent part of the Combine forces.
 
What use is a dead human? None.
What use is a living human? You can make a soldier(synth) or a slave(stalker) out of it.
 
Same reason why the Nazi's didn't kill everyone at once, they liked to see people suffer first.

Also, I'm not too sure that the Combaine CAN kill all the humans... I mean, if you think about it, the combaine stuff isn't all that strong... If striders are the best they've got, than they arn't all THAT superior... I mean they could pwn but not THAT hard.

According to a site I've just read from the other thread, Earth's surrender was negotiated by Breen with the combaine BEFORE the invasion, before the cascade. I think i'ts just the combaine taking humans by surprise and with such a huge force, that made them surrender in fear.

The Nazis respected most POW conventions and treated Allied POWs humanely for the most part. It was only if you were Polish or Jewish that you really suffered.

We've haven't even seen a glimpse of the true Combine force yet. During the transition period they replaced Combine forces with Overwatch, who were tasked with policing Earth. The Combine force is off-world.

Also, I don't know what you've read, but that isn't fact. The Combine arrived because they were attracted to the energy given off during the cascade/portal storms.

not just that, they (the combine and/or the nazis) also need the people to basically do all their work for them before they kill them. they need humans for a bit of info on the planet, and for a workforce to be used in helping suck the planet dry.

The Combine didn't destroy humanity because people are useful. It's like destroying resources (admitedly, quite a volitile resource but you don't see people destroying oil just because it occationaly explodes). But now that they've caused so much hassel it's probably time to EX-TER-MIN-ATE!

Once they restore the portal systems... I wonder how long it would be until they do restore them... I mean the message that went out couldn't arrive to the combine world all that fast (traveling at the speed of light, it would probably take thousands of years before the info reaches ombaine's world, but surely, they have faster means. Still, teleporting a hard disk of some sort wouldn't make sense, because of the energy it wastes, especially after the citadel has been f**ked, so, it WOULD take a while for the packet to reach the combaine... unless they have some technology we don't know about)... and once it does, it would take the combaine a while to restore all the teleporters and the suppression field.

Maybe it would take years! But then.... Gordon would need another stasis or something, cause fighting the overwatch for years is tedious work...

The Combine's homeworld is in another universe.

The combine could kil them, but it would agrivate the rebels... mainly because, you intimidate the rebels by keeping the Civis instead of driving rebebls mad (not insane just angry), and coaxing them into attack!
 
Wouldn't be much of a story or game if they did.
