Hi All, sorry if this has been asked before, but if i buy a copy through steam, can i play on my machine and my wife on hers.

You'll be able to play hl2 single player simultaneously (just start one machine in offline mode). But you can't play cs:s multi at the same time.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be like it is with HL1. One key per copy to play online.

I know where you are getting at, like if you just wanna play 'single player' on both or while you are playing online, she can play the single player. That I'm not sure of, they might allow something like that, just not allow you both to be playing multiplayer at the same time. I wouldn't see what the fuss would be to allow that option though.

cool, thats what i was hoping for. also, i'm wondering will people need to verify with each new install or does steam send a file saying that the purchase has been verified.

im pretty sure that all your purchase info and crap is all integrated into your steam account so as long as you use the same account your set.

Yes, you can. You can also use the same copy to play CS:S in a LAN game, but not online.

Really? I was wondering the same this as the guy who made the thread. Even though I will be buying multiple copies of HL2, it's reassuring to know that Valve wouldn't be so tight assed to restrict even LAN play to one copy each.

I read that on steampowered, and noone posted different, so i assume it to be correct. I think this may have been why they allow you to change names in CS:S....but i could be wrong.

lan gaming is allow with the same account
That part worries me the most. :)
I will never hand out my account info or use my info on another PC.

Will this work for retail HL2 as well? My brothers buying it and i cant afford it atm so will i still be able to install it on my PC and play it while he is?

I couldn't get CS:Z to work at all on a LAN (sharing accounts and sending one offline). Perhaps I'm just stupid, or CS:S works differently.

Me and my friend play online on the same account, now we don't, but we could, just couldn't play on the same servers.
We played 2 different ones. Now i got 2 accounts
