Will the marines be in the HL2?

I was wondering will the marines be coming back to HL2? and if so will they be helping the Gordan Freoman out this times?

complete guess but i imagine not, cant see the combine letting a bunch of marines wander into city17. cors i cud be rong but i doubt we'l c ne marines
 
Probably not seeing as they were part of the US Military and the US doesn't seem to exist in the Half-Life 2 world.
 
I mean they could be helping Gordon this time by fighting combine. Who knows maybe the marines are no more because combine is too powerful now and the marines all destroyed or scattered. Any other thoughts?

Nope, the marines were part of the US Goverment. USA is missing in HL2 whatever the reason is.

I wonder what's happening in the US during your stay...hmmm...why Europe? There has to be a reason!
 
Seriously, this is like the first original thread in like a month.

I would bet that the marines have been replaced by the combine.

It would be cool if they had the marines in one of the resistance groups though...
 
Yeah what happen to the USA, Personally though me not like USA because they too cocky me hopes aliens take USA and we have to make a beach landing and rescue usa from alien.
 
maybe it was heavy alien invasion, since black mesa was located in usa. so everyone fleed to europe? but since they closed the rift between xen and earth in Decay i doubt that.
 
The US has to be around because the G-Man is still giving Gordon people to kill, planets to take over... And we think the G-Man is part of the US government. So it is logical to assume that the US is still around in one form or another.
 
I already killed all the marines in HL1.
 
Haha, it's actually weird that the USA doesn't apear in a game... I'm looking forward to this!
 
How some I see that running away and then they must of escape when was time for the bomb to blow up.

Ummm, because Europe is bigger and has a larger population than the US?

Furthermore it might be difficult to find a traditional Eastern European city in the US.
 
Something has happened to the US. All the marines are dead (I shot them. :)) except for Cpr. Shepard who has a chance of making a reappearance.

I find it wierd that they are in Europe (and in a city with an even weirder name) because it all happened in the US in the first place. I really hope the HL2 story would clear things up :p And as far as I understand most of the marines died in Black Mesa. It would be even more weird if Gordon met some in City17 :rolling:
 
europe has more country side locations which lets them use that source engine for more things than just buildings :)
 
I don't mind missing the marines, since the combine are the new marines from hell.
 
America probably got owned by whoever are the invaders in HL2...

could be the combine... could be xen who knows.

that would explain why you see a lot of american characters/NPC's in C17.


and no i dont think the combine are americans.

What happened to Cpr. Shepard at the end of opposing force?
I can't remember what happened between you and the g-man. Maybe he put him in status like Gordon.
 
I really hope the marines wiil come back a resistance group, like in the movie Reign of Fire, they could come from the US and to come and help.

I think that is great that the action is based out of the US for once, all games now days are about the US, Valve being American, it does surprise me.
 
purley out of interest, what role do u think the assassins will play? in hl1 wernt they working with them marines? (i cant remember i aint playd it in so long =/ ) but if there are no marines in hl2 how will they come into play?
 
USA USA. To be honest the actual real world location does not bother me one jot and you shouldn't care either.

Well as we saw in opposing forces atleast SOME of the marines got out of there alive. When you were about to walk through the door and climb into that big yellow chopper the g-man shuts the doors right before you can make your escape. If you look through the window you can see a larage group of marines who are flown out. So my guess is if they never made it home, they might still be alive... if the US was destroyed I mean. I actually live in Arizona Mesa, so mabey i should just look around for them :)

Doesn't bother me either. :)
But it's something to talk about until it's done.

It seems reasonable it will take place somewhere in europe. An invasion from Xen would be surprising as the Gman suggested it was in thier control, at least for the time being.
 
From some of the worst displays of grammar to excessice naivity and american shovenism, I have yet to read a worse thread. I mean, the US isn't in a game? That's proposterous! But seriously, is moving the fight to europe after a decade really so crazy compared to the shenanigans in the predecessor?

Um, read some of the posts the guy made, they were saying he hoped the USA got invaded. Yeah, that's really how the US is stuck up.

I can go even further, that's spelling, not grammar. I don't feel bad though, english isn't even my second language :)
