I have posted a few threads similar to this, regarding the new PhysX cards that will take advantage of games using the Novadex Physics Engine. The link below is an interesting read, plus there is an accompanying video of an interview with several Ageia staff as well as shots of Novadex in action. I ask you to read the article because it really is incredible.

It does make me wonder whether Valve will remove Havoc from Source and replace it with Novadex as it is a more interesting and flexible engine (Those people who have tried the demo know what I mean). What are your views on the upcoming technology?

Sooner or later if they wanna have success with their physX cards they need to have a open api so all physic engine can make use of hw acceleration. I think that may actually happen as soon as this year.

Having said that there is no immediate pressure to change physics engine for valve. They may just stay with the havoc engine and update it to the most recent build for HL3 which would be havoc3. Heard very good things about havoc3 from developers currently using it for xbox2 title(s)

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Havoc 3 developed in partnership with valve? Didn't one of valve's clever bods find a way of putting the 3 main physics calculations into just one?

If I'm right, then in theory atleast, HL2 is already running the new Havoc engine.

I also believe that Aegia have said that they are looking to get Havoc onboard in some way.

I'm not sure what the relationship between valve and havoc exactly is. AFAIK valve licensed the havoc1.x engine and added new stuff and customized it for their needs.

I'm pretty sure that HL2 doesn't use havoc3 at this time. For HL3 they probably will improve the source engine including the physics but how they gonna do it is as speculative as the release date of HL3 at this point of time.

As said they could update to havoc3 or to another physics engine or just improving what they already have in house without licensing new stuff from a 3rd party.

I guess we have to wait and see what happens.

Thats good news if its true. I hope the new card has the ability to draw polygons as well, otherwise theres really no point in me getting one until I get a new graphics card that can draw more.

Just wait until we all get older, we can tell the youngins

"Why back in my day we didn't have your fancy shmancy physics cards to tabulate everything, all we had were tables, rocks, and exploding barrels. And WE LIKED IT!"

i only have a rock and a barrel that doesnt explode but it has a sign on it that says "warning radioactive"

Congratulations, you've missed the point. And the apostrophes, but that's another rant. The point of the card is to do PHYSICS CALCULATIONS. It has almost NOTHING to do with graphics. READ THE FSCKING ARTICLE!

LMAO I guess the name "Physics Card" isn't self-explanatory enough.
