Heres de stuff..Breen claims without him the earth would be destroyed by teh combine... Whaddaya say

The Earth wasn't going to be destroyed in the first place. All Breen did was slow down the assimilation process.

I think the combine were going to destroy earth, only taking the humans for synthification. There is no need for them to preserve earth, except Breen's promise of delivering teleportal technology.

I agree, without Breen convincing the Combine that if they wait while the overwatch finds the teleport tech all humans would have been assimilated in the past 18 years or so.

i dont think the combine really wanted to destroy earth in the first place.
if they wanted, they could have done so without even attempting to find a stooge here
isnt it likely that breen knew of the combine only after the portal storms?
before that he might only have known about the xenians.

Yes, but assimilation isn't destroying the Earth, it's just destroying humanity.

You are correct. Now that I think of it the Earth is going to be destroyed either way. Except one way the humens go quasi-peaceably and the other we get forceably assimilated, both ends with earth not staying the lush green planet we all know and love.

Not too sure. We dont know how the invasion toke place. Id like to see that first and then make up my mind.

There's actually an answer to this. The answer is yes, without Breen, humanity would've been annihilated. Not synthified, not turned into stalkers, KILLED OFF. Breen had to convince the combine that humans were worthwhile and would be an integral part of their empire. If he is proved wrong (which I do believe he has been, thanks to Gordon Freeman and the resistance), the Combine can, at their discretion, decide to exteriminate us at any time.

Wouldnt Freeman's and the resistance's sucessful (well, so far) rebellion have proven that humans would make a good addition to the combine empire? I mean a force of poorly trianed and equipped rebels led by some scientists and a bloke in an orange armoured suit have managed to defeat their heavily augmented counterparts, and even turned thier weapons and technology on them. I'd say that those would be very useful qualities to have in the Combine.

Te humans only won against the trans-human forces, which are among the weakest combine units. Except Gordon, no one was able to take out striders or gunships easily in HL2.

I wonder why the combine even stopped to listen to breen when they came to earth in the first place..I wonder how breen got them to listen to him instead of just killing him off...If they wanted to just destroy us they would of just killed breen without paying any heed to what he wanted to say to them.

I've always thought it possible that the Combine could see the worth in humanity because of Gordon Freeman. On the flipside, it's just as easy that they could find more reason to destroy humanity because they realize that humans would never willingly give themselves over to the Combine. Also, Gordon Freeman and the resistance are motivated by the fact that they're suppressed...fighting back enables them to be stronger. The Combine probably realize that if they took away human emotions like this, they wouldn't be as good (arguably why the Combine soldiers are so ineffective against the rebels, motivation), and thus don't fit in well with the Combine's way of doing things.

And Breen's good with words; on top of having that oh-so-desired teleport technology in the works, Breen probably persuaded the Combine by detailing how far humanity's come in their short existence, how far they're likely to go, our adaptability, etc.

Did you read the earlier posts? One explanation is that Breen would have handed over the local teleport tech to the Combine, given enough time

Why would they want our teleport tech? If the Combine are a multi dimensional empire wouldnt they think our teleporting tech is low? I mean...they supposedly teleported in the Citadels didn't they? And if that is the case...I wonder still how breen got them to listen to his arguement without just shooting him where he stands....he must of hidden and told them indirectly that...because I dont think he just stood out in the middle of them and said STOP SHOOTING! I HAVE A OFFER TO MAKE! and the combine just stopped what they were doing and were like..OK! Go ahead dude! Whats your offer? If its good enough we wont kill all of you!

i heard he used a radio, was in a early draft of HL2 and put into HL2:RTB and i believe was in some sounds for the beta of HL2 (i think eli was telling him about it)

If ya think about it, Breen was the director of Black Mesa, correct?

And all the creatures came over into Black Mesa, which Breen was in charge of...for all they know, Breen could have been the leader of the human race...a liason, so to speak...

Human will be destroyed, not the Earth. The combine needs resources on the Earth. You know, they won't invade earth for nothing.

Then did not teleport there because they used technology, the got there thru the portal storms and had no idea about teleporting to our dimension, they are from the 4th and we are frm the 3rd dimension. Xen is border and is like 3.5dimension and they want to get there...breen makes offer to help them get there...

Yes they did. And you've no idea which universe they are from.
Sorry wrng tense, They could not figure out a way to teleport to the 3rd dimension although they knew our cordinates... Its a Theory that they are from the 4th dimension im not officially stating that, perhaps we will find out in Episode 1 Aftermath.

Remember HL one? When you were about to do the experiment and the scientists reminded you how "nervous" the administrator was about this?

The deal was probably that he caused a resonance cascade a got some form of power in the combine hierarchy.

You don't have the idea of dimension, right?

the combine got here thru the portal storms? i thought the portal storms just linked xen and earth and by starting a portal storm, earth was probably lit up like a christmas tree in the combine radar( or whatever) and it alerted them to our presence.

since the combine were not on xen, and black mesa was linked only to xen, i fail to see how dr breen could strike a deal with the combine before they came to earth...

They did not teleport dimension to dimension. Universe.

Can the citadels fly like a starship?
Edit: Not saying that they flew here, just asking.

Oki :D
I dont think the earth whould have been destroyed if Breen hadnt been there, I bet the way the combine have set up their operation on earth, are the same as they have done everywhere else, seeing if there are civilized planets.

Oh and btw, I see you got a new pic Samon.

Yeah I agree, the Earth wouldn't have been destroyed without Breen, the only difference would've been that the assimilation would've been much faster.

Why is everyone saying hat combine are from the 4th dimension... bbson_john i have a bit of an idea what a dimension is, ..Dimensions can have many meanings 2d 3d, time span, space...

Like a few others said, humanity would've still been assimilated, but a lot faster. Even if we are incredibly weak and stupid compared to other species they've conquered, an empire the size of the Combine's probably never has enough cheap labor and/or cannon fodder. Thus, wiping us out would have been impractical, and we all know how much the Combine love practicality.

Im away for about a week snowboarding and when i get back there has been like a mass ban or something. :S

Combine practicality ftw!

We're piecing clues together to form a scenario... ofcourse as you said, not all the questions will be answered in Epi1 but this is possible because the combine have come to earth already... you should understand more about the combine and about the 7 hr war since they are coming and in ep2 or 3 there might be clues about the third power... ok? This question can be answered in Ep1 if asked!

Are you sure? for all we know in EP1 we maybe just running for our lives all the time, I myself think we will get lil clues in each EP.

True True but why cant aftermath answer more questions than the others because more questions build up and if you give out bit by bit, HL will never end.. there are new questions in every expansion and little is answered, if you answer bit by bit , the wuestion will be 85% and the answers will bw 15% and the questions increse by one and answers decrease by one cuz there will be more questions than answers!
