I was just wondering if a asus a7n8x motherboard could support a 2.5+ghz. processor. I don't know much about computers but I know that my cpu speed is 1.8 ghz right now and I'm looking at updating for hl2. The motherboard has a 400mhz. fsb. Can this affect what processor I can buy and put in my computer or will there be any compatibility issues?

thx for the help if you can provide any

That's an Athlon motherboard right? If it's Socket A, I doubt it could support a 2.5ghz processor...I think that board supports Athlon XPs on the Barton and Thoroughbread cores. What is your processor anyway? Your full system specs and pricerange would help too....sounds like your processor is fast enough already for HL2

It has a nForce2 SPP(Ultra400) chipset if that helps

O nevermind it is a socket a. Thats pretty gay but thanx for the help. How much is a new decent motherboard that can support 2.5+ghz. worth?

Well, Don't take the Hl2 requirements too seriously....AMD doesn't rely on clock speed like Intel, look at their flagship processor for instance compared to intel, the FX-55 is 2.6ghz while intel's is 3.6ghz. If you get me a pricerange I can configure a good MOBO+CPU combo of pricegrabber or newegg for ya

Holy crap thanx. I was thinking in the 150-200 dollar range. Is this possible?
