ok well i finished the game and all i have to say is the crossbow is the biggest joke of a weapon in the history of the internet.. takes like 5 seconds to hit its target after u fire? waht unit in HL2 is inanimate?

well sniper rifles are in every other shooter and are just too certain, the extra gain you get from shooting far, is countered by the fact its slow.

If you notice, guards will stop and shoot, you'l get used to knowing how to use the crossbow.

I love it! :D

Also do other sniper rifles pin ppl to walls? :D

You have to lead a little bit. Its called skill. Ever played halo or tribes? Seeing as how the crossbow is a 1 hit kill I think having to lead is fair.

crossbow was a pretty fun weapon...

Worked well for long-distance stuff, and was pretty effective at stopping the big bad mamma-jamma ant lion things. (3 shots?)

I beat the game on hard and used maybe 2 arrows from the crossbow? They just added the game in because they were short on their 3 weapons :\

dont play it then. sorry there werent 50 weapons that all do the same thing in the game.

the crossbow is fine, what is questionable is the fact that it's the only weapon that "features" the time it takes the bullet to reach its target, where the other weapons are insta-hit.

The crossbow is great fun. If it had been instant hit, it would basically just have been another Magnum...

It's you who is the joke if you can't properly handle the damn thing.
It requires skill.

I loved it too, for its range. You could pick off a few of the Combines to level the playing field beforfe the moved in on you, or get those pesky ones hiding in windows.

lol ggtardface "NO YOU! IT REQUIRES SKILL NOOBER"
your argumentation is flawless
..the only problem is that they are right

I rarely use the crossbow for long-range... I prefer to get up close and personal with my prey...

my argument is the crossbow doesn't require skill and is incredibly random. i dont think ONE gun in the game requires skill, the game has no recoil and is incredibly random.

learn wtf ur talking about instead of like "OMG HL2 IS THE BEST GAME EVER, ANYONE FLAMING IT IS WRONG". try playing games competitivly

it's random to you because you don't know how to use it. and i believe this thread is exempt of fanboys, so don't base your argumentation on the figments of your imagination. isn't it ironic to call others fanboys because they disagree with you ?

i see your points have fallen back to stupid and simple insulting

No skill and random? The only retard here is you.

How does the crossbow not take skill?

I liked the crossbow a great deal. Having to lead your targets, and the possibility that they might move at the last second added some more difficulty and tension in using it effectively. Plus, nailing soldiers to the wall by their necks was just cool and supremely satisfying.

At times, I did wish there was a sniper rifle, but on the whole I thought the balance between enemies and weapons was very good. And, there's always CS if I'm really jonesing for some sniping.

Plus, who knows? Maybe an expansion pack will feature a sniper rifle.

wow didnt know os many retarded singleplaying newbies flocked on this forum

im done here

I assume the mostly intelligent replies were way above your level of understanding, probably this post too... so i'll dumb it down to your level of understanding.

"OMFG U R ST00000000PID"

Well, considering you think everyone else, except you are retards, couldn't it be you that is the retarded one? just a thought...

Anyway, I like the crossbow. And I don't think that it's that hard to use...

I would have rather seen the crossbow as an underwater weapon mainly and then a proper sniper rifle as well.

LOL

I love teh flames people.

Crossbow rules. If you can't use it, I'd have to agree that you are a retard. It fires in a straight line, drops vertically according to phystics and basically pwns all. You need skill to use it.

Another thing of crossbow handling is that the bolt goes down if you shoot too far, couple of times I had to compensate for that.

And stop flaming each other, play nicely ;) Use crossbows instead

Anyone notice the crossbow bolts hardly ever match up to where theyre holding a corpse

after saying 'im done here" and returning to the thread to post, one would expect to see an unleashed flow of incontestable and genious rethoric to prove that a) he is in the right of reposting here and b) the crossbow sucks, needs no skills and we are all retards. only then his post would have made sense.

am i dreaming too much ?

got us there. seeing as most of us have girlfriends, go out on a daily basis, and have jobs/careers. but yea...you got us there.

First thing I got to say is, if you're losing an argument, it looks a lot better to back out gracefuly than to try and dig your hole deeper.

As for the crossbow, yes it requires skill. Dont like it? Dont use it. As for me, the crossbow has got to be one of my favorite weapons. Why? Certainly it kills in one hit. But the key thing is the ability to attack silently, as well as the bonus of pinning corpses to walls.

Oh, and if you dont like the crossbow in HL2, then you certainly wouldnt have liked it in HL1. Yes, it had more ammo, but it still took time to get to target. If you want an instant one-hit kill weapon, use the magnum.

Sidenote: Anybody ever realize that if you shoot a hard surface at an acute angle the bolt will actually skip off? Neat feature. I once tried to find out how far I could skip a single crossbow bolt. I ran out of straight level surface before it stopped.

I used the crossbow a good deal in the later levels of the game. It became indispensible for the quick "pop out and line up your shot before a strider takes your head off" weapon. Did take a few tries to figure out how best to utilize it though.

Don't feed the trolls.
