I was just browsing through Gameranking's screenshots and saw these mega old shots of HL2 (Ok, so you and I have seen many of them before, but some are new and some things i've never noticed before). Very little of what can be seen in them seems to have made it into the game, and check this one out - an old style citadel in the C17 skyline. I'd go as far as to suggest that this stuff is among the pre-release material they were gearing up for E3 2002 - quite why it was released on the net at any point is beyond me, especially considering how different the game already looked in the E3 2003 videos.

I seem to remember a lot of these being in an old trailer at some point. Definately not representative of the final product!

Well (uh-always flushing when talking with an admin;-) halflife looks cool, but there are some city-pics that i miss. Very athmospheric, reminds me of my chosen hometown after the wall came down....I do not understand, why they cut that out- but we already had that discussion tons of times , right?

The unknown is always more intriguing, mysterious and thought-provoking than the known. My guess is if you had played that version as the final cut, video clips/screenshots if the current content would look more interesting. I'm not flaming because it's the truth. I think about this sometimes as well.

This is also the reason why everyone's so obsessed with the deleted "proof of concept" stuff.

They seem to have an older version of the OICW there... and it has a 'nade launcher! Weird.

somethings were indeed disappointing in te graphical quality in hl2. Although I really like the easy to use hammer and the gameplay(except the hoovercraft level)

And how I miss someparts that i've seen in the first trailers... :'(
you don't know how I excited I was about some parts that they cut out. I was really looking forward to that harbor thingy with the zombi's falling in the water

yeah I really thought that would be one of the more cooler periods in the game, and also when the combines were fallowing and they blocked a door and then they said it was non scripted or something like that. But later we all saw that they kick in the door anyway... :( I really was amazed by that, when i didn't know it were lies yet.

But i still forgive them, They brought CS:source immediately and later we got HL2:DM and the sdk etc. It rules. The bang for my buck is everlasting :P

I think that valve should released a " deleted scenes " version of HL2. Like they did for Condition Zero. And have all/most of the stuff they left out for HL2 and be playable. That would be cool :afro: .

good insight.

I really wish they had left the OICW in and ditched the plasma rifle, if they really were forced to remove something.

If the E3 03 stuff was in the game instead of what it is now, you would be asking for the plasma rifle instead of the OICW and stuff

Lies? What lies? Do you you complain when certain scenes from a preview of a movie are left out? I don't understand why people fixate on the minor amounts of deleted content rather than focusing on what's actually there.
Think about it.
Instead of combine breaking through the door we have zombies breaking through skylights to bypass the door.
Instead of shooting a piece of wood hanging from a crane and having it swing down and kill combines, we have to blow up barrels and cause nearly the same event to break open a door(water hazard).
The only thing that I can conceivably sympathize with people missing is the hydra. But there has been an explanation for that already.

Besides, I rather liked playing content that I DIDN'T know about.

how coudl you be disappointed with the graphical quality? is your video card not up to snuff. Cuz even on my radeon 9600XT the game looked AMAZING the whole way through. better than any game I have EVER seen.

Agreed. I've never seen character models of that caliber. My 9800 pro doesn't have a problem with it. I don't plan on upgrading until dx10 comes out :E (my old card was dx7)

edit-animation to models

I've heard of these special ATI levels but don't have much info on. Those might bring us some of the old content, or it might just be all new :(

The only thing I really wish they'd included in the final cut was the strider scene from one of the binks. IMO fighting the striders in the game wasn't as awesome as I thought it'd be.
