I am brand brand new to moding with hammer, I know nothing about moding but I allways wanted to do it. OK where is a good place for me to start?

www.interlopers.net
www.akilling.org
www.snarkpit.net

Some good tutorials to start you off, start at interlopers and if you feel like it sign up for an account and get to know the community, they'll help you out.

A few tips...:

Don't release your first few maps, you'll see why when you get better!
Just because you can pick any colour of the rainbow to light your room, and even make them flicker does not mean you should.
Start with a small map, like an fy, draw the layout on paper and then go from there. It is much easier to edit obvious choke/encounter paths on paper then in hammer.
And lastly... don't give up! Mapping is a bit tricky at the start, but is very fun and rewarding in the end!

Goodluck!

Yah, moding seems so hard, but I hope I can figure it out. It sucks that I dont know anybody into moding so it is hard to get help. So thanks.

Anytime. Getting into the modding scene can be a bit tricky. Start with hammer, build up your skills and when you feel you're ready apply for a spot on a mod team. As I said above, get to know the interlopers community and you'll get a neat insight into the modding world as most of the members are all on various projects.

Sounds like a plan to me! So what about you how long have you been into moding? Are you working on a project now?

Its always good to apply to a modding team once you feel confidant in your basic skills, joinning a mod team gives you something to map for or mod for and you start to build a friends list of modders. Also another note UT2004 is the easyest to map for I found but the HL2 engine is much better with shadows and lighting.

try to make a random map that includes anything you can think of so you can learn lots of different thing that you can include in your maps. like have a ladder a teleporter a track train a sprite lots of triggers npc's etc. then tackle brushwork.

Thanks, all of you have been the only support I have got. So it does mean alot.
