I heard it when I was checking the wav sound files of HL1
appear in the part were you are in the ventilation and see like 3 soldiers talking

so there is really a sabotage?

Referring to the Resonance Cascade?

"Science team, you think he was responsible? Sabotage maybe?"

I assume that is the line you are refering to?

I'm almost positive that the machine was sabotaged, but it's still unclear enough that it's impossible to say anything with total certainty.

I, personally, doubt it was "sabotage," per se. The resonance cascade was almost certainly a planned (or, at least, planned FOR) event, with the usual suspects being the G-Man and the Administrator.

As for the soldiers speculating that it was sabotage, it makes sense that thinking like that would have been encouraged...or, at the very least, not discouraged...amongst the Marines. It would have encouraged the Marines to see Gordon as a "villian."

:O Maybe the G-man hired someone to sabotage the test. He is some sick bastard trying to see if Gordon can save the world.

Grunt 1: "So, who is this guy, Freeman?"

Grunt 2: "They say he was at ground zero."

Grunt 1: "Science team? You think think he was responsible? Sabotage, maybe?"

Grunt 2: "Yeah, maybe. All I know for sure is he's been killing my buddies."

Grunt 1: "Oh yeah. He'll pay. He will definitely pay."

I remember that conversation. Right before you reach the satellite launch. It made me feel kind of guilty when I had to eventually waste them.

One of my favourite graunt-line is: "I've killed twelve dum-ass scientists, and not one of 'em has fought back. This sucks."

I sometimes stop them from finishing by smashing the ventilation open and firing down snarks. They rocks in vents :)

"We've set the antimass spectrometer (or something) to eighty per cent. A little gamble..."
"What the hell is going on with our equipment?"
"It wasn't meant to do this in the first place."

"It's probably not a problem, probably, but..."

S1: "This is the purest sample we've seen yet."
S2: "And, potentially, the most unstable."
S2:"... I don't know how you can say that, although I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade is extremely unlikely."
S1: "... we've assured the administrator that nothing will go wrong.
S2: "Ah, yes, you're right..."

And so on. The administrator apparently pushed the scientists to overload their equipment. Not exactly sabotage, but almost. Why the administrator would want to cause such an accident is anyone's guess (or, perhaps he was simply arrogant and didn't think that anything could go wrong).

There's extra information pointing to sabotage in both Decay and Blue Shift. Things the scientists say, though I can't remember exactly what off-hand. Something about security systems being disabled.

Can Decay be considered as an official part of the story? It's such an obscure game, not many have played it...

Well it's an official expansion, all of those were made in consultation wih Valve.
Plus it explains some things in HL1, like why Gordon had to fire that rocket :)
So imo, yes it is.

yeah, i thought you just had to shoot up the rocket for the heck of it :|

That's what I said...

"Although the dampening fields from the facility’s containment system had failed to cause a resonance reversal, Dr. Keller believed that the prototype displacement beacon at the Gamma Complex could be used instead to seal the dimensional rift and end the invasion. The beacon used some reasonably pure Xen crystals to generate a powerful displacement field, which previously had been used to create miniature dimensional breaches which would pull alien specimens to Earth and directly into a holding area for capture. For the beacon to cause a resonance reversal, its displacement field would have to be correctly calibrated to neutralise the one within the dimensional rift, but unfortunately the advanced sensor equipment in the Lambda Complex could not scan the rift because it was too close to the anomaly. The necessary analysis could be made if the Omega Satellite was launched into geo-stationary orbit, since it was equipped with sensors designed to detect displacement events and monitor the teleportation networks in the Black Mesa facility. Unfortunately no rockets could be launched while “lock-down” was in effect, and an “all-clear” signal would have to be transmitted."

Is a summary of that part of Decay invloving the rocket.

"S2:"... I don't know how you can say that, although I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade is extremely unlikely."

If you pause the game while that scientist is talking theres an aditional bit of speech that gets cut off, he says:

"S2:"... I don't know how you can say that, although I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade is extremely unlikely, I remain uncomfortable with the errr"

You dont get to hear what the rest was because the line was cut off there, It seems most of the scientists were unhappy about pushing their equiptment too far but were willing to take the risk. Theres other lines in the paks where the machine gets shut down.

I think it probably was sabotage, maybe thats what the G-Man and the scientist were arguing about behind the glass.

Yeah he's cut off by the other scientist:
"I remain uncomfortable with the- Gordon doesn't need to hear all this he's a highly trained professional."

I haven't played Decay and I'm not sure what you're talking about in Blue Shift, but I do remember a line about the security systems being disabled. They run the antimass spectrometer up to 105% in order to get a better reading of the sample, and they have to disable the security/safety systems in order to do so. I can't remember exactly where I heard that, though.

I will still hearing more sound files
are interesting things there
but maybe you all ask why I doing this
well when I am playing I cant understand very good the voices

i have hl on steam, how do i listen to these sound files please? i really want to listen!

use a program that unpacks the gcf, gcfscape i think is one google it, it can take out the files u want and u can extract them somewhere and play them.

thanks guys! i'll try the first program that was said

I am surprised no one emailed Gabe about this.

It's kinda pointless right now, wouldn't you think?

I mean, the way this forum works, Gabe would be e-mailed if somebody so much as cut a fart.
